So my sister sent me a link to this guy, Woody6Switch on Etsy.

I raged a bit. For only double the eBay price of a functioning system, you can have a tacky lamp or a briefcase that would get any professional fired!

All proceeds go towards furthering the methodical destruction of classic hardware.

Crimes against games thread?

it's about re-usability. You're taking away from other people by effectively destroying it for your tacky amusement.

it's like someone cutting a dick out of the Mona-lisa (obviously not a perfect comparison, but valid in many people's eyes) sure you might think it's cute, but you're ruining it for other people at the same time

People still overreact. There's a ton of game consoles out there and while I'm a preservationist myself I'm not going to act like the NES or SNES are rare. They're incredibly common. We can't bitch about people overcharging them AND act like they're sacred precious things.

At the same time, you can make shit like this out of broken systems. Everyone immediately assumes people make these out of perfectly good hardware.

Half of this guy's shop is /vr/ hardware gutted in service of obsolete iPhones.

The general argument is that the platform is unnecessarily locked down and the app store excessively censored and sanitized. Also they're as much overpriced fashion accessories as they are functional pieces of technology.

I'm partial to Android phones, myself, but I can see why certain people prefer Apple. The target demographic for most Apple products, though, is people who hate or are at best indifferent to technology - they don't want to modify it or think about it or even be aware that their phone is anything more than a social media gateway.

I respect gaming as a hobby, but come on, there's 100 million NESes out in the world, 100 million Super Mario Bros. / Duck Hunts, 400 million NES controllers, 50 million zappers, etc. Can't some of the working or broken ones be used for some creative shit?
