Well, maybe it's for best. I mean, without old crew there's no sense. But considering wave of ports back in the early 00s, they could at least port Metropolis to Windows like they did with Sega GT.

Started playing ballistic ng recently and man I have to say this, the best wipeout game isn't even a wipeout game.
I played wipeout 2097, 64 and pure back when they were new and while pure is very cool and all I miss the aesthetic of the previous games, 64 plays amazingly well but the lack of championship/grand prix mode ruins it for me so yeah I know it's not technically /vr/ but I've been having a lot of fun mastering this one.

>> No.7481725

/vr/os, I need help remembering a game. Theres not much to go off of because I was like, 7 or 8 , but I played a nascar game once on PC and Im trying to remember what it was. It had decent looking graphics, so it wasnt chonky and gross like from early mid 90's, maybe early 00's or turn of the millenium, and I think there was a loop the loop track in career mode, and I think I remember listening to 'Wont Get Fooled again' on bristol speedway

Games will never look that sharp again unless you 1) use ludicrous resolutions to brute force it or 2) full path tracing becomes viable. Modern engines are basically built around TAA for a variety of reasons and there is no real cost effective way to combat it even with smart sharpening.

TAA is so gross. I'd rather have a few less lights bouncing around if it meant keeping proper antialiasing. It's only now kinda of being rectified by DLSS, but it's not quite the same level of image quality of a properly MSAA'd game from the generation before.

Jesus why are the events in this game so long and tedious? In later NFS games most races were 5 minutes at most and in this game you got 4 lap races which take over 10 minutes, not to mention tournaments that can spawn up to 8 races and take almost an hour to beat.

I really liked the ridiculously long races in Hot Pursuit 2. You would think 30-something events in a campaign is pathetically sort, but turns out each event is basically a boss battle where I walk out with battle scars. As much as I love UG1, it was really shit where an event could be over in 3 minutes tops so it feels like each event is cheap and you chew through a treadmill of events. HP2 really feels like it demands your full attention especially when you have cops dropping nukes on you.

I played the game - and that mission in particular stands out - on a shitty windows ME prebuilt that would run the game at 15-20fps. I was limited to using a keyboard at the time and needless to say it took a very very long time to actually beat that mission and the rest of the game. HP2 really is an evolution in style of TNFS. People forget the diablo and 512 races in TNFS were 8 fucking lap races on courses that would take 2-3 minutes to get around. The point to point races would be broken up into chunks 3-4 minutes long as well.
