Hardcore, severely life-changing body modification is what nearly everybody is into, tunnel vision guy. If you weren't a mere twenty-year-old (or whatever) obsessed with miscellaneous nerdery and Important Online Fad Issues above all else then you'd notice that 80% of Americans and half of ALL HUMANS are fat, and that maybe 1/3 to 1/2 of those are superfat. Becoming fat is a bigger life change than the hormone treatment that trannies engage in. Becoming superfat is a bigger life change than tranny hormone treatment PLUS tranny genital surgery. If you gave a crap about extreme body modifications that pointlessly ruin people's lives and weren't merely a fad-chasing child, then you'd have trannies so far down on your priority list of reasons to negatively judge others that you wouldn't ever even hint at your personal anti-tranny position even when provoked.

Back on topic: Yes OP I agree that F-Zero GX is awesome and that it lets the player do awesome things, some of which, in addition to being awesome, are silly.

This has always been the case with Nintendo games, especially from the post-snes era. Although the snes era had a few "dude it's totally one of the best games of all time, you just don't have the right taste!" like yoshi's island and DKC despite them being some of the least appealing platformers around. I guess I'll be one of the 2-3 people to actually respond to the question. Earthbound. I don't have it on me, but there's a picture floating around where someone mapped out the shop system. Because Earthbound doesn't use a logical shop system where the NPC is tied to the store dialogue. No, no, no. Earthbound instead ties all the shop NPC's in the entire game to a gigantic IF/ELSE tree, and then goes down the tree checking flags to determine the player's current location, and which shop dialogue to load. For every single fucking shop in the game. This doesn't save room on the ROM(since no code was reused, they just added another layer to go through), and is far from optimized.

If you wanna romhack EB, the current tool available actually wipes the entire ROM and leaves the most basic framework possible, since starting from scratch is actually much much easier than trying to alter things without breaking other things. All the old tools have warnings that they are likely to break the ROM outright, because of how EB is designed.

Tbh if you can be bothered going through the no-doubt extensive trial and error required to know how to pull that off, then more power to you.

Personally I couldn't be arsed. Sometime I'd cut simple corners using air but presumably the devs anticipated this and probably considered it part of the game's strategy. Unlike GX which Sega fucked up because you dropped like a stone after about 2 seconds of air, which was not only annoying but completely contradicted the games apparent physics engine.

I couldn't be bothered with vid related though.

>> No.7498120

>>7497780
X developers saw how airtime could be utliized, and allowed the mechanic to be incorporated without fully exploring what someone might concoct. This is just an open ended design philosophy and is no different from how Id software allowed rocket jumping and how Kamiya incorporated juggling into DMC. They decided open ended mechanics were a feature and not a bug.

Sega went for the "play the game the way the designer intends you to play" mentality, and did not allow for that same kind of open endedness.

There's nothing really wrong with open ended physics exploiting too be honest, it's how some of the most creative and advance video game antics are concieved. It requires a very servile soul to be angry that people are willing to take malleable tools and take them in unexpected directions. It's the stuff that keeps people talking about video games long after their release, and it's what a lot of modern video games are missing.
