How's the state of Saturn emulation. After Lent is over I want to play the Saturn Grandia and Suikoden. I'd prefer not to go through all the modding or buying a Japanese Saturn if possible.

Panda put out a new review on Virtua Racing Saturn, over an hour long with interviews with the dev team that worked on it and the kind of dev environment they had pre-launch. I always heard the game was shit on Saturn but seeing his coverage of it makes me want to try it. Highly recommend it if you want a historical review of a Saturn game and its development:

It's OK, it's easy to get started so just try the games and see how they work. No emulator is perfect and often get basic addresses incorrect but with all the power of a PC chew through errors even if the results are inaccurate. From what I've seen most games work fine. The real thing of course won't have the same issues you might see, but know that the only wrong way to play Saturn is to not play it at all.

Radiant Silvergun was interesting, but I'm not very good at shmups and stage 2 is my limit. Can only beat it in arcade by coin feeding.
Thunder Force V feels odd right now.

Absolute fucking dogshit. People complain about N64 emulation but that's nothing on how bad the Saturn is.
My current rig was built in 2018 and runs almost any AAA game with maxed settings, but it's too fucking weak to run Beetle Saturn without chugging.
There are older, worse Saturn emulators that run fine, but they have numerous graphical issues and inaccuracies.
