Bubsy 3D got memed as one of the worst games ever when it's really just a game that didn't do a good 3D transition. So Bubsy was never a big highly polished series to begin with and figuring out 3D in that era is one of the hardest things ever and there were a few bad experiements, Bubsy 3D being one of them.

But I can see what they were trying with the game. They were attempting an actual 3D game. Crash bandicoot like a lot of playstation gams is actually quite claustrophobic and small. Bubsy 3D is actually trying to be 3D so the levels feel quite free, and it uses the PS in the most straight forward way possible. The system isn't very strong so they can only do these very flat abstract worlds that are pretty bland looking. The top selling PS games like Resident Evil or Crash typically would use tricks to make the games look better than they should.

Crash for instance has a locked camera system and that allows them to cram as many polygons onto the screen since you know exactly what the player will see at any given time.
