Had to start a new save file, game kept insta-crashing and got to the point where I couldn't move without pause buffering or else it would crash, sometimes it would crash inbetween pauses too. Seems like the game wants you to go back to Krystal as soon as meet the SwapStone as Sabre, I wouldn't recommend going down the waterfall or if you go into areas that crash, don't try to force your way through it.

Go back to Krystal after meeting the SwapStone. Going to Volcano Force Point Temple seems to create a higher chance of the game crashing which is how I ended up in the situation I was in with my game insta-crashing after I visited the area again after going back to the SwapStone with the Spellstone. It creates a lock too where you can't swap to Krystal if you're holding the Spellstone and you can't warp to Warlock Mountain, so I don't know where the game wants you to go at that point. Krystal's story seems to have an objective already set in mind too, "Go to Discovery Falls." When you swap to Sabre all you're really asked to do is bring Tricky back home.

Is there any plan to fix the dialogue or voice acting? There are some lines without any voices or would need to be adjusted to tie back into Dinosaur Planet instead of Star Fox. I doubt the voice actors would come back for a fan project and fan voice acting can turn out awkward and would need to be compressed again for the N64. What would be the solution then? To remove all the voices and replace them with Banjo-Kazooie type mumble speech?

It's not being a cuck. It's law and business. When Nintendo offered the Star Fox IP, Rare could've declined but the suits at Rare, Chris and Tim Stamper, accepted Nintendo's offer and that changed things. Rare devs could've declined Nintendo, but you can't say "no" to your direct bosses.

>> No.7458901

>>7458894
Well, you kind of can say no to your bosses, but it involves quitting. It seems like the devs didn't like nintendo/rare's decision, and most of them were gone shortly after all this. Leading us to the state of Rare today.

Call me weird or whatever, but I'm not usually a fan of voice acting in video games. I don't know if AI speech could provide a good substitute for an original performance either. I might be alone on this, but I think something like Banjo-Kazooie mumble speech would fit the game fine.

They didn't leave "shortly after this", though, they left some time after the buyout after realizing how little freedom they had under Microsoft once they became 98% owner of Rareware.
And even then, the majority didn't leave until they left to form Playtonic a few years ago. I'm surprised Bayliss stayed at Rare though, instead of joining his comrades at Playtonic.

>> No.7458939

>>7458917
Might be this section taken out of context.
>I thought this was amazing at the time, although I was also concerned about how we were going to make the story work with the existing characters from the already established Star Fox series. This apprehension remained when I got back to Rare following the show, but [co-founder] Tim Stamper reassured me that it would be fine and we’d work it out.
Tim & Chris seem to have been very positive leaders and Rare's quality only started to decline once their presence also declined after the Microsoft buyout. Tim & Chris seem to have made Rare what it was, so to put blame on them seems a bit unfair. They could've very easily influenced Conker Twelve Tales to remain the same and not shift to Bad Fur Day, but the fact they didn't means they have some respect for creative vision and their artists. To be fair, their kind of leadership is what made some games overbudget and underschedule, but a lot of those games turned out fantastic in the end. But to a company like Nintendo this could've been seen as a risky investment and suddenly it becomes more understandable why Nintendo didn't buy them out.

I didn't think a lot of it would be walled off though. Feels like a majority of the mechanics don't work and sure levels might be modeled and designed, but the way to get there isn't. Somethings feel like they don't exist at times, I feel like something having code in the game is different than something actually being in the game and functioning. Considering the amount of items, collision, dialogue, textures, etc. that need to be fixed, I'd say it feels like the game is closer to 70% or 80% complete. 90% feels too generous even if everything is there but none of it works or is severely buggy.

Time travel as a plot device can seem like an excuse or quickly become retarded, I get that this is an early draft but it needs more refinement. How are the Krazoa prevented from ruling the universe because the Dragons exist? Why are the Dragons trying to destroy the planet to destroy the Krazoa? I don't get why there's this huge emphasis on "who started the war" when the personalities and culture of the two sides are so unclear. I don't really understand the effect either of them have on Dinosaur Planet, only that apparently both of them want to rule the universe. It just sounds dumb when you break it down to-

The basic problem is that everything in the game is controlled by flags that aren't being set correctly because the critical path through the game is broken currently. Some cutscenes are triggered, for example, by walking into a room and passing a flag check. This is why properly freeing Kyte causes a bunch of new content to work as expected. There's like a flag meant to make those wandering SharpClaws to disappear, but it didn't get set because of a cascading chain of triggers that never got called. DP is not suited to sequence breaking.

After you finish some stuff with fox the mexican cartel gives you a key to get past the moon mountain pass gate. I'm pretty sure I sequence broke but something I triggered there trigged the moon pass key for krystal.

You get a spirit after leaving and killing these eyeball things that shoot at you and break rocks you hide behind. After leaving and handing in that spirit you smack one and it blows up a wall. I from there just walked all the way back to the swapstone and went to krystal.

The distract skill is fundementally broken and I'm almost sure it might not break if krystal is there instead when he gives it. Fun fact, tricky and krystal can do all of fox

this game will straight up just randomly unload the map if the camera clips through walls sometimes. It's likely some bugged code that tries to load other maps or cull out a wall or some shit. Instead it just culls out the whole fucking map which also happens to disable the terrain blocking you. When it comes back you get pushed back up and don't fall back to your death. I'm guessing that's what people do to get past him. The same thing done in cape claw. downside is it makes shit unstable as FUCK

Does anyone know if Star Fox Adventures for GameCube and Dinosaur Planet on N64 share some of the same code? Is it possible that some of the missing or broken moves, abilities, etc. could be fixed by importing some of the code in the GameCube release?

A lot of lost games come out and then people lose interest in them because they fail to live up the years of hype. But I don't see that happening here. The game is simply good. The crashes disappoint people because they want to see what happens next. They want to keep experiencing this mysterious world that was dumbed down and pared down in SFA.

It's far better than the game we got in SFA. It's like an amazing song that never had its mastering finished and the last 30 seconds are missing vs a crappy cover version featuring Billie Eilish. I wouldn't call it an evolution, if anything it feels like a devolution compared to the Rare of old who pushed the hardware they worked on, from OI MUH SPECCY, NIGEL to the NES to SNES and N64.

I think that's why Rare was forced onto the Kinect so heavily by Microsoft. They knew Rare was all about pushing hardware, look at Conker on the Xbox. It looks better than lots of 360 games. They had this tech they wanted to aggressively push on the Xbox 360 (and later the One) and banked on Rare aggressively pushing it the way they pushed everything else.

Too bad the Kinect was dogshit and not fun in any capacity to use and was just a glorified tech demo. Like a T-Rex's arms.

Speaking of that I forgot to reveal the form of pause buffer I've been using. Similar to fighting games this game has an input buffer window to help do things in sequence. If you hit the b button and hold start immediately afterwards the game will unpause and repause within nearly the same frame. You can repeat this to give the game a chance to attempt to load. It doesn't always work but if you know you're on a frame that feels like the next one will definitely crash from something that isn't a missing item pick up model or just plain referencing something that won't show up you can use this to try and prevent it. You'll know you're doing it right because the screen framebuffer in the background will get darker and darker.

As someone in this situation, time. Doing thing as a passion project is great, but having a *real* job is a major time sink. Try balancing work, home, recreation, and your passion project and you'll find you only have a couple of hours a week, if that, to get anything done. It'll probably be set on the backburner and eventually be retired and cancelled. Sure, you might not have complete creative control doing it for a job unless you're indie, but you will have a team of at least somewhat competent people.

The problem with my logic might be that most game dev jobs require you to give up home and recreation time anyways, but that can be true of any dev job.

Hello, /vr/. I'm a newbie when it comes to this board but I come to you with a question:
I've downloaded the rom, what now? I see talk about multiple emulators and codes, but I have no idea where to start.

This maybe controversial opinion, but SFA was one of my favourite games in my childhood and I'm so happy it happened. I also learned later about Dinosaur Planet and I also loved the footage I found. It also made me realise that the parts I liked most in SFA, the planet and the lore, were from Dinosaur Planet. My perfect world is getting both and I can't believe it happened, but happiness is mixed with great deal of guilt because SFA denied you DP. I hope this game can be restored and even improved in the future so we can have both in their full glory.

>> No.7464416

>>7464397
It really depends on how much of the game you're wanting to play. If you're happy just playing around in the first 60-90 minutes, just use this: https://m64p.github.io/ Make sure you quicksave frequently because in-game saves are flaky and can spit you into the void after a crash.

To play further into the game, cheats are needed. But like I say, if you're just wanting to check out the start of the game while you wait for people to fix the game, this is your best option.

Let's Plays are only good when you like the person and want to hear his/her opinion. It is like seeing a friend play a game in front of you, you know, HOW WE USED TO DO BEFORE INTERNETS EXISTED.

Well I guess that's what happens when you explore. You end up in a hole with no escape other than starvation.

It works per se. But I've noticed a lot of shader fuckups on it when playing it side by side with a console. I used to remote debug the gamecube version and the emulator side by side when I was ripping old dinosaur planet content and ripping unused game script that starfox adventures still loads into the ram. There is a lot to see now with dinosaur planet so I'm focusing on that now.

It probably works ok though.

You're actually supposed to die when you go in there probably if that's what I think it is.

I mean, it's a given you're supposed to die. It screams death pit. But it's funny that I didn't. Just took an apple of damage and that's it.

So something I forgot to mention is before the fight starts, hold out the shoot button lol because you'll need to step on a pool of acid to shoot his chest. each time you get hit fox will shoot a homing shot at him. For whatever fucking reason you can't shoot under normal circumstances. This is essentially a form of what I always call the log glitch which lets you aim out of basically any state.

good grief is this a pain because of how he walks at you after spitting acid which doesn't make him do the arms spread animation which is what I assume you're talking about. at least during this trial i figured out you can make tricky flame him if youre close enough whichll tank the framerate and melt the game no pun intended

He shoots like 3 -4 times before chest so you know when he will do it kinda. Also don't have the tricky code on during the fight because otherwise it will apply every single frame and shit will fuck up. That code SORT of works but it's not flawless.
