I think it's more that the characters are famous for inhaling Pizza, so a mass market chain that everyone can recognize just feels appropriate.

In "Michael Jordan: Chaos in the Windy City", you can grab Wheaties and Gatorade as powerups. The end of level scoreboard even features their logo. The one product placement they couldn't get? Despite high top shoes being a power up in a game featuring Michael Jordan, they couldn't get make them Air Jordans.

You should check out Rolling. It's a PAL only PS2/Xbox release. I can personally confirm the actual gameplay runs perfectly on a softmodded NTSC-U Xbox, with the only issue being the FMVs stuttering and going out of sync with their audio. As opposed to Aggressive Inline's THPS4-style open-ended goal structure, Rolling follows THPS1/2/3's "checklist and a timer" format. I know this term gets thrown around a lot, but among XSGs it's easily a "hidden gem". I can't decide whether I like Rolling or Aggressive Inline more, but I like both games a whole lot.
