What are some games that aren't that good but are worth checking out as a novelty?

Starcraft 64
It's a terrible port by basically every metric, largely because of the space limitations of an N64 cart but it has multiplayer couch co-op built into every mission which is pretty neat
Also it's got the mission Resurrection IV exclusively, which introduces some canon story elements that eventually returned in Starcraft 2 (much to many player's confusion).

It's pretty (perhaps the most beautiful snes game) and sounds good. But the combat is clunky, specially in the boss battles and the random encounter rate is terrible high even with the item that reduces it.

So, like the mission name implies there were four Resurrection maps
The first three were initially free DLC for Starcraft Broodwar downloaded straight from Blizzard, and then the fourth was exclusive to the N64 version

These tell the story of Stukov's body being found and infested by the Zerg and leading his own little faction, then the N64 map (IV) has the Protoss/Raynor fighting back and partially curing him with some magic serum, followed by Stukov's escape of the zerg with Raynor.

In Starcraft 2 HOTS you find him just randomly on the primal Zerg planet, still infested but autonomous.
So when HOTS came out 90% of players who had played Broodwar didn't even know there were DLC missions, so they were confused as to why Stukov was alive and infested after last seeing him shot into space at the end of Brood War.
Then 90% of players who had played the DLC missions thought he would be still leading his weird terran/zerg faction and causing hav, having no idea there was a Resurrection IV mission

I'm sure there's some expanded universe stuff too but honestly who cares about that.

It's not that good but also not that bad. Lots of frustrating parts, but the exploration feels rewarding and the cutscenes are amazing. I'm still so disappointed that live-action cutscenes didn't become a series staple and instead they just went full 3D.

It's a great game until every ally and random enemy starts spamming magic and the game stops during the animations every single time. It's a crime it took them until the PSP remake to fix that.

It's okay. The first legitimately good Tales game was Eternia because it's the first one that doesn't freeze the combat to animate spells.

PLAY SOME 3D GBA GAMES

All the 3D racing games on the GBA (Need for Speeds, Top Gear Rally all had 3D environment and 3D car, V-Rally 3 and Driv3r cheapen it a little with a prerendered car sprite but are still impressive) are worth seeing just for the sheer amazement factor. The other 3D GBA thing you should see is 007 Nightfire, which is not just 3D but uses 3D bond gimmicks like the zipline claw to take you places, although it runs only 'good enough'. Kill.Switch is a 3D, TPS cover shooter but so unfun and broken that I don't want anyone to think they should put up with a couple missions just to see it play - the tech is amazing but the art assets used are either boring or horrible so there's still nothing cool to see.

Ecks Vs Sever and Ballistic Ecks Vs Sever are 2 separate games that are also true 3D FPSes, but they are more "actually good" than "bad but interesting". Same with Asterix & Obelix XXL.

If you want another 3D thing and also want to see one of the worst games ever made, try Medal of Honor GBA.
