I'm very familiar with both console and PC gaming but feel like I'm completely ignorant about arcade gaming. It's generally rarely discussed in gaming communities, and I guess most are by design just gimmicky and very short. I feel like it's just hard to experience them outside of the arcade environment itself.

Is it a lost art? Or was it just shallow gimmick games?

Is there any sense in trying to emulate arcade games, considering most require gimmick physical devices for instance? I remember playing a skateboard game as a kid using a literal board for movement. It's sad how now most of these games cannot be experienced as they were meant to be.

Always been fascinated by Time Crisis and House of Dead as a kid. If I want to get a lightgun games collection for instance, is there a usb gun I can buy that will work with the arcade emulators? Will that even be half as fun as on original arcade?

I also grew up with the dreamcast so I'm fond of that whole Sega period but I know the dreamcast didn't get even 5% of their arcade output at the time.

What are your favorite arcade gems and/or experiences? Both the games themselves and/or the "physical" experience, childhood memories, originality of the concepts, etc?

You need to read forums that specialize in arcade games. Everywhere else is full of credit feeding scrubs

I'm against Bernie Poster and Sega System poster because...

1) I'm a fan of the Sega Saturn.
2) I'm not triggered by the word "Master".

Sega did release quite a bit though, not only for the Dreamcast but for the competing consoles as well. Crazy Taxi, Daytona U.S.A., Outrun 2, F355 Challenge, Sega Rally, Initial D, Dynamite Cop, Spikeout, Outtrigger, Virtual-On, Virtua Cop, Virtua Fighter, Fighting Vipers, Virtua Tennis, Virtua Striker, Beach Spikers, I could go on forever. Some DC home releases like Rez, Space Channel 5 and even Jet Set Radio are absolutely arcade games, just not released in the arcade.

it's everything from light gun games to old school score games like pac-man, to sidescrollers, to racers, shmups, fighting games, whatever

not a lot of arcade point-and-click adventures for instance but otherwise it covers a lot
