Awesome music, pretty cool gameplay. Probably shouldn't have been called FF though.

notable for having the greatest final fantasy soundtrack

>> No.745891

OP here, that was a pretty kickass soundtrack, though the gameplay was far too linear for any RPG

ashane battle theme

Mystic quest is more than nostalgia for me, I feel I was ripped off, the one super famicom game I have is FF5 for a reason

>gameplay was far too linear
How is linearity bad? If you explore everything, the only difference between a linear game and a nonlinear game is that the nonlinear one has far more boring backtracking.

>> No.745912

Still an extremely enjoyable game, as simplistic as the battle system and story are. Any lack of depth is made up for with JUMPAN and WEAPON SWINGAN and FIREBURG THEMEAN.

well nintendo ought've put fucking end labels on them!

Loved this game. It wasn't until years later that I saw it had some kind of bad wrap. It was the game that got me into RPGs and that actually was its whole purpose; to be an entry level JRPG

>> No.746116

My first rpg.

Loved it back in the day when I rented snes games in the video rental store.

It's perfectly fine for what it is (a beginners rpg)
and actually has some very interesting and unique gimmicks
that other rpgs lack. Also yes, awsome soundtrack.

>> No.746138

If it wasn't for this game i would have never thought to use Cure spells on ENEMIES in other Final Fantasy games.

I think ProJared wrapped up this piece of shit game pretty well. Fucking horrible game.

I wouldn't trust anyone who has a capital in the middle of their name for subjects pertaining to video games.

>> No.746193

It's babby's first RPG, after all.

But even for a starting game, you can do way, way better.

Good point

>> No.746201

Love the way you use your partner's unique weapon outside of battle to reach new areas, in a way it's a bit reminiscent of Zelda and it's better executed than Breath of Fire.
Battles were boring, they should've used the ATB system.

Pokemon was my first, it worked quite well until I scared the shit out of myself by accidentally performing the Missingno. glitch.

>> No.746220

Funny thing about this game.

Your ally would always retain the resistances your previous ally had in relation to certain attacks until you saved and reloaded the game. So you could end up with a Reuben who had Phoebe's resistances until you fixed it.

Pokemon would've almost been my first too, If i wasn't into some sort of idiotic phase were I hated anything even remotely resembling anime.

Instead I was a stupid kid and got Donkey Kong Land 3, instead, which while good just ain't the same.

boxart was cool too, Benjamin is a well drawn protag

The difference is the order in which you do shit. In a nonlinear game, the order will be different over multiple playthroughs, adding to the replay value. Not saying linearity is bad though. It really depends on the game.

I'm glad most of us can agree that Ryuji Sasai and Yasuhiro Kawakami's work on the soundtrack kicks ass.

Sasai also did the BGM for Treasure of the Rudras and SaGa 3 if anyone else is craving a JRPG with similar tunes for some reason.

>> No.746435

Loved this game as a kid. Awful game. It's actually a SaGa game.

So, what was the story with the Final Fantasy name again?

>> No.748768

>>748736
Square called every game they released in North America "Final Fantasy" for a while. In fact, I think Secret of Mana was the first game they published since FF1 that didn't have "Final Fantasy" in the title (and it almost got called Final Fantasy Adventure 2)

Mystic Quest is always fun, the only problem I have with it is the final boss drawing. He has enough hands for all these weapons, but not enough hands to pull back the drawstring on the bow.

Fucking how does he shoot it
