Made another one of these threads a while back and got some hella good responses so thanks for that anons if you're here.

I thought I'd go through some of the games they suggested for other people who might not have heard of them,

feel free to post your own obscure titles

one anon recommended this game Wonder Boy In Monster Land and so far it's been pretty decent but slow and slidy movement makes it hard to appreciate it.

>Star Trek
Now two anons actually recommended this game, just ones on different platforms. I prefer the EGA Trek to the Kobayashi Alternative solely because of the playspeed- now I'm not a speedy game person- hell the game I recommended in the last thread needed to swap between four different floppy discs for every other action, but a game like this needs speed to engross the player, and the alternative couldn't give it

A spin off after the success of Omnitrend's Universe series: Rules of Engagement

You play as a fleet commander, directing ships against enemy forces of aliens.

Seriously a game that isn't made these days and before modern industry standards- I think they went above and beyond in this game and it's a shame it was forgotten to time

I've been digging through the the entire libraries of every major console for a while .
NES
>Layla (Dirty Pair-inspired side-scrolling action platformer with multiple weaopns with heavy momentum-based movement, the game itself is just OK with some annyoying things, the Iris Missions hack is much better)
>Bio Senshi Dan (action platformer similar to Xexyz, it is very stiff but I found the world to be very charming)
>Cosmo Police Galivan (another sci-fi exploration action platformer)
>Isolated Warrior (cool isometric shmup)
Famicom Disk System
>Otocky (musical shmup by the dude that would later make Electroplankton)
>Esper Dream (RPG with top-down shooter combat encounters instead of turn-based stuff)
Super Nintendo
>Hyper Iria (one more sci-fi action platformer, reminds me a bit of Layla, but with more traditional movement)
>Lupin Sansei - Densetsu no Hihou o Oe! (agreeable Lupin action platformer, nothing mindblowing but I'm a sucker for grappling hooks)
Genesis
>Mamono Hunter Yohko - Makai Kara no Tenkosei (decent action platformer with a cool charge attack mechanic, I think it is based on an anime or manga)
PSX
>Acid (very cool looking "shooting" game, not in the sense of an FPS or shmup, but like a golf game or like a 3D Worms, where you aim from a fixed position)
>Chou-Kousoku Gran Doll (action platformer, you unlock multiple costumes with unique abilities, like a grappling hook or a claw to climb walls)
>Cybernetic Empire (tank control action game, got my attention because it has a grappling hook and one other weird thing that rotates you around a point)
>Floating Runner (pretty decent simple 3D platformer with a focus on exploration)
>Fluid (musical game where you control a Dolphin and create cool sounds by messing around)
>The Rapid Angel (very nice action platformer with beat 'em up-ish combat, it has a scoring system that rewards you for air time and you can go really fast, as the name suggests)
Will continue later if anyone is interested

More PSX games
>Stray Sheep - The Adventure of Poe & Merry (whimsical adventure game where you control a sheep, most of the gameplay revolves around puzzles and setpieces)
>Ten made Jack - Odoroki Mamenoki Daitoubou (platformer based on the Jack and the Beanstalk fable, it is decent buy clearly made for little kids, you have to play this with the sound muted, the music is incredibly annoying)
>Charumera (ramen delivery game with nice 2D art, you need basic Japanese to play it though)
>Kaze no Notam (hot air balloon simulator with nice art by Artdink)
>ToPoLo (another weird simulator by Artdink, this is kind of a mix between Lego, life sim and fighting game)
>Zoku Gussun Oyoyo (very cool puzzle game by Irem, it is like Tetris + Lemmings, but there is only one character, which moves automatically like a Lemming, the cool thing is that you can use the Tetris blocks not only to create paths, but also to squash or push enemies)
Saturn
>Hissatsu (feudal Japan action platformer with multiple characters)
>Keriotosse (a simple but entertaining arena brawler based on knocking your opponents out of the arenas, is somewhat inda similar to Power Stone)
>Nanatsu Kaze no Shima Monogatari (very nice adventure game with a focus on collecting a bunch of stuff, unfortunately it has no translation yet, but a Spanish on is on the works)
>Shinrei Jusatsushi Taromaru (kind of a 2D platformer mixed in with a shooter, you control a character like in any sidescroller, but you attack using an independent reticle)

You basically build creatures out of Lego pieces and you can either watch them fuck around in a park or make them fight.
Artdink has a bunch of weird simulation games.
Susume! Kaizoku is kind of a pirate racing game where you try to be the first to get to treasure, Carnage Heart is a turn-based robot fighting game where you program the robots using flow diagrams, they have a pretty big series of sandbox world exploration/trading games called Atlas, a traffic simulator, a shitload of train simulators and a bunch of other stuff I never got into. Their most famous game I think is Aquanaut's Holiday, which is a "zen" underwater exploration game directed by Kazutoshi Iida (i.e the Doshin the Giant guy).

thanks for that. kinda hurts being ignored for years but if it isn't Lucas arts or Sierra nobody talks about point and click adventures on here.

the game takes place in Victorian England and is inspired by Jules Verne novels and is kinda making fun of it or paying homage.

i actually think the game is hilarious and i still literally laugh about its jokes.
I've used to love monkey Island as a kid and still do for its charm but it doesn't make me laugh one bit. gene machine does.

the hand painted water colour backgrounds are lovely to look at and the animations are actually great.

so what's most important about an adventure? the story.
you play as a posh Willy Fogg kinda guy who has to find the island of an evil doctor who combines the genes of humans with animals. i talking cat escapes and somehow bumps into you.
you have a friendly servant but the posh main character treats him like shit which results in many jokes.
besides many locations in London you will meet captain Nemo and even be on the moon.
it's a refreshing adventure with many great ideas, a lot of love put into it and it's abandonware by now. this gem is the definition of a hidden gem to me and i highly recommend it.

i would play it with defender reloaded which works like a charm but because of some right management I'm too stupid for it didn't have the permission to save save files on C on win10. worked great on win XP where that writing permission of win 10 wasn't a thing yet but defender reloaded is just a backend for DOS box and I'm just an idiot who is too stupid to get simple things to run i guess.

just check out the game.

>The hero, if one could call him that, is Sir Featherstonehaugh (pronounced “Fanshaw”, he insists), an arrogant explorer and self-proclaimed man of science. After returning back to England from a prolonged trip overseas, he is tracked down by a large talking cat. Proclaiming to have escaped from the clutches of the ruthless Doctor Dinsey, the cat-man-thing warns of his creation at the hands of a terrible device called the Gene Machine. Using this monstrosity, Dinsey seeks to create an army of terrible hybrids to take over the world, and the cat believes that Fanshaw is the man for the job. He isn’t, really, because he doesn’t give a toss about the fate of humanity, but he does care about fame and fortune, so he takes on the adventure in hopes to establish a name for himself.

it's all a big homage to the famous Jules Verne books so that's why you are in a steam punk submarine with Captain Nemo (the Nautilus) and also on the moon but I don't want to spoil it any further

there is a pub in the game called
>Crabs and Seaman
and it took me until i was older to get that joke.
defender reloaded is a backend for running dos games. if I'm not mistaken in dos box you still need to run all the commands to get a game to work and i think it's more than just
>run game.exe

you can just drag and drop an exe file in defender reloaded and it will open any old DOS game for you. my ex showed it to me and it made life so much easier.

I wouldn't say this is exactly obscure since it got a fair amount of praise when it came out, but I've never seen it brought up, even within the limited Amiga discussions we have here.
It is an exploration "platformer" (you actually fly around with a jetpack instead of running and jumping). It has a little bit of inventory puzzles, so it is closer to something like Dizzy than Metroid, but I feel like Metroid fans will enjoy this since it is a lot more linear compared to other exploration-focused puzzle adventure games on C64, Amiga and shit like that.
One cool thing about it is that it runs a fairly complex physics engine and there is an AI system for the creatures that enables some behaviour manipulation.

Yeah.
Another cool forgotten Amiga game is Odyssey. It is more linear, but is also a cool game for exploration sidescrolling action (it is divided into stages, but they are all fairly big).
Its gimmick is that you can transform into a bunch of animals with different movesets (and some other weird stuff like a rock and a Muppet-looking thing). Its arstyle is one of the best on the Amiga 500 imho.
