Game can be completed in FIVE minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mfaC6dwTQs

How can you call this game good? Note OP posted the NES version and not the arcade one.

It started an entire genre, marble games. It's not the most popular out there, but games like Ballance, Super Monkey Ball or Paperball continue to be made to this day.

Fallout 1 can be speedrun in 4.50 despite being a classic.
If a game can be completed that fast that doesn't make it bad, it means it has a high skill ceiling. Stop thinking that long = good you fucking zoomer, that's the cancer that is killing games currently, resulting in endless padded boring open worlds where nothing interesting happens.

It takes literally 4 minutes to successfully clear the game but I did spend hours at a time occasionally on this back in the Atari/Amiga days. The weird monsters and shit all kind of freaked me out, even at that level of graphics the game's surrealist atmosphere were pretty unsettling for a 7-year old.

Uhh, the video I linked to wasn’t speed running or using glitches. That’s a straight up standard gameplay full with mistakes. It’s not even 5 minutes, but more like 4:30. Would it have killed them to add 20 more courses without new gimmicks? A mirror mode? A harder difficulty? An infinite mode where you can play until time runs out? You’re making an excuse for the game and trying to justify the scam. Imagine being a kid and getting that for Christmas. You loved the arcade one and almost beat the last level... thinking there’s more to it. Turns out there aren’t. Marble Madness is worth 25 cents 10 times in your lifetime. Not $40 in 90s.

Okay? Also I enjoyed the NES version just fine when I was a kid. It's just too easy and short.

These days I play it in MAME with this. I get to the final stage regularly but just can't beat that fucker.

No one asked. It's a videogame made for kids. A digital toy where you roll around a marble.

No idea about good or retro, but I remember Neverball and having fun with shareware copy of Hamsterball.
I've got some BALLS have more ball sliding around than rolling, but it fits, and there is also Enigma with games it was based on, but thats more of a puzzler.
The most modern I know of that kinda fits would be Rock of Ages.
