Apparently the game is way too easy, even on the hardest difficulty setting.
It sucks because the game looks spectacular.

This is just sad.
If the gameplay was great (rivaling or exceeding SoR2) this game could have single-handedly spawn a new retro indie (not homebrew demos and romhacks, but full-fledged games) dev movement.
He definitely would have benefited from some feedback.
For example, with any kind of a fighting or beat-em-up, you need to not only provide a diversity of moves and combos, but make sure that you can't rely on only one move/combo to win against AI. Paprium apparently suffers from this with jump kicks.
>i bet you wear neon spandex cloths and randomly shout: SHOWTIME
Let's be honest. The game looks amazing. I don't own it, and I'm suspicious that the FPGA and other chips he added to the cart are doing graphical processing secretly.
But if that's not the case, then this is easily the most visually impressive Genesis game ever, that had the potential to have been at least one of the best Genesis games ever.

The more I read about it, it seems there were a lot of concerns that the game was finished, but couldn't run on the Genesis.
So the extra chips on the cart and their functions need to be verified.
If the game is actually doing a lot of heavy co-processing on them, then it's not really a Genesis game at all. The fact that he's so secretive about the chips is suspicious.

It's because he doesn't want this to be cracked and emulated. Dude genuinely expects people to shell out $230 for just the game alone if they didn't preorder it back in 2017 for $70.

If this game came out in '93 it would be game of the year. Mediocre but working fighting mechanics would be overshadowed by the insane graphics and soundtrack. The Nintoddler fans who didn't immediately commit suicide would be running to the local funcoland SNES in hand to trade it in for a Genesis plus put money down on the sold out Paprium phenomenon that is sweeping the nation. autism
plain and simple
personally, i think its cool to try and push the boundaries of old systems like this. but when that push comes almost solely from stuffing a bunch of modern hardware into the cart, it becomes much less impressive imo
like, you wanna limit yourself to old hardware for the creative restrictions. sure, i can dig that
but then in order to do what you want, you have to essentially cheat and use a bunch of modern chipsets that were totally outside of the realm of possibility for devs back in the "good ol days"
and then you continually refer back to those older games in bad faith, patting yourself on the back for your stunning """achievement"""

just go take a look at a classic genny game, like thunder force 4
no fancy new-age helper-chips required. just plain-old masterful programming, both in terms of its audio and video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDpWMyZnaCM

with paprium, the end result is a very limited run game that cost far too much to produce, with the hopes that you can continually scalp more and more thirsty /vr/fags for $300+ a pop due to its exclusivity.
the irony here is that, not only would it have dramatically reduced the cost and time of developing and manufacturing, but they likely wouldve also made a shitton more money and been able to produce it MUCH quicker, if theyd just developed the game for PC and put it up for $10 on steam, or some shit like that. then it would be even easier to port to additional systems as needed, and the profits would compound.
at the very least, it would allow a ton more people to play your game
the fonz seems unconcerned with this, and instead sees only dollar signs in the short term
its hard to say if hes even self-aware enough to realize just how badly hes managed to mangle his reputation
