R-type on Gameboy is better than R-type for SNES.
Not R-type 3 though.
Seriously. Donkey Kong for Gameboy is Mario 64 tier for level movement. God damn it Donkey Kong '94 is good.

Metroid 1's better than 2. And Land isn't even in the same galaxy as SMB1, which probably has the best physics and control of any platformer, though Land 1 is the best Mario game on the Game Boy

There's even the pre-curser to the triple jump. You do a headstand (which is a jump iteself) and jump immediately for a big boost and then jump again for the giant jump.
Also the headstand jump has 2 different jumps. If you jump immediately you get a big boost but you can also walk around on you hands with your feet in the air, this will protect you from falling items and then jump for a small boost.
Which is different from the backflip jump still.
Mario's Iconic landing with his arms out is in this game too when you do the giant jump, the same pose you see when he lands on a planet in Galaxy 1 and 2.

What else would you nominate? Platformers with great physics aren't that numerous. Gimmick, Mario 3, SMW, and Mario 64 are all in the elite tier, but SMB1 and SMB2(Japan) on real hardware + CRT are the best of them

The Triple Jump is a nightmare in the new super mario bros series, for whatever reason nintendo does not allow you to disable this function. Ah, not to mention that the movement is inferior to the Donkey Kong GB franchise

Not him, but SMB3 and SMW both have better physics than SMB1. And since you said "any platformer" I'd say in terms of physics the Sonic series has any Mario game beat let alone SMB1. Knuckles Chaotix, regardless of overall game quality, is my pick for best physics in any platformer. Whether it's fun or good game design is subjective, but the physics in that game are pretty impressive.

They refactored some code in DX version due to changes of ROM bank map.
For example, in DX the function of using a shield is splitted into two parts, one required a bank change. Such changes may had made the game slower than original LA when running on old Gameboys.

>SMB3 and SMW both have better physics
They both have top tier physics, but Mario's weight and momentum are less pronounced in those games. SMB1 does it better. Like Mario 64 with 3D, 2D Mario physics/movement peaked early and like with almost anything popular made concessions to the average awkward inept general audience as time went on

Menus open more slowly, bosses move more slowly (even on a GBC/GBA). Everything is easier and more tedious. The photograph thing is forced. The owl statues thing is not a big deal, but is forced and does clash with the consistency of the story and art design. The whole point of the Stone Slab is that Koholint is supposed to be a cryptic and mysterious "ancient" place that you gradually discover the secrets of, and forcing the owl in there just because he was reintroduced via OoT (which had just came out at the same time DX did) feels cheesy. Most people who didn't play it first via emulation played DX first because they played OoT, as DX was released to be a tie-in with OoT, anyway, making people (ie, OoT niggers) who say it's better than the original seem even more pathetic and plebeian. It wasn't even handled by the same team that made the original LA, hence why it runs more poorly than the original gsme (see also >>7422858 for more detail). I like DX and own it on cartridge, but it's not the same experience. It's worse, and you're fooling yourself or haven't played the original if you think otherwise. Both should be played, DX second. DX is not a replacement for the original game. DX is a different game.

Slowdown is a reasonable complaint, but it's also the only reasonable complaint you gave and it's not bad enough slowdown to be a deal breaker. I really don't agree that "DX is a different game"

Not slowdown. Bosses were intentionally nerfed in DX to make them easier and slower. Example is the genie in Bottle Grotto.

You're welcome, and good choice anon! I might space them out a bit, if I were you, though. Each game will feel a grander experience and not monotonous if each is given its proper space.

>>7428021
>It's optional, simply don't visit the mouse for the first photo.
I'm aware, but that doesn't change it's garishness. I actually like it, by the way, but it's not an advantage over the original. It makes for a different experience, like remakes typically do ( and no, I'm not calling DX a remake).
>There are owl statues all over the island, why not in the dungeons?
Because that's not part of the lore. The dungeons predate the owl. The owl statues were added by the owl.

>>7428031
Its dungeons are easier than the three games from before it, but they're more concisely and intuitively designed than even ALttP's.

How can they predate the owl if they're part of the Wind Fish's dream and the owl is actually the Wind Fish?
