desu a lot of the times I adjust to it. Even games like Gunbird 2 which some folks have complained about I feel like it plays pretty naturally.

maybe 5 frames depending on the game? I think the shmup junkie made a video about it if you're into that.

Almost every shooter on the DC (up to Karous) is a winner in my book. Granted I don't care about Ikaruga but the library as a whole is solid. That being said, Psyvariar 2 is a standout but the ps2 port is better simply because of auto-roll, a button that won't destroy your thumb like rolling does on the Dreamcast.

I guess I didn't notice the blurrier graphics as much on my crt, but I'll take your word for it. The mission mode and practice options are nice (though not as nice as the practice options on psyvariar delta on steam).

I think its just based on how many lives you have left. 3-green, 2-yellow, 1-red. I think with higher scores you can move up a border level between stages. Its been awhile since I played.

At this point the list's utility lies in it being a fairly comprehensive list of shmups on each console. Good enough to have an overview but when assessing quality the guy misses the mark.

I wonder what the most efficient way to practice in Border Down is. Is it to practice every stage as red or yellow? The problem is that each stage is different so if you fuck up you are thrown into an entirely different area on respawn which makes it impossible to get a feel for the stage.

I suggest downloading Demul or Flycast, and going onto that internet archive dump of all DC games and having at it.

I recommend Zero Gunner 2 if you are feeling adventurous and don't mind a slightly unorthodox control scheme (ie your ship can turn around 360 degrees on the screen but lock in place using a button).

NullDC is fine but it's mostly for weaker pc's and has some graphical/audio inconsistencies. If you have a pc built/bought in the last 3 or 4 years Demul or Flycast will offer better performance and can run even the more intensive post-mortem dreamcast games without a hitch. I dunno about other DC emulators.

Zero Gunner 2 is fun, too! Just avoid the Steam/Switch port like the plague. The porting team lost the source code and had to re-cobble together the game from scratch and they did a bad job of it.

If you like beatemups, Cannonspike/Gunspike by the same dev is an all-capcom beatemup/arena shooter that is similar and lots of fun.

Today's progress. Don't really fully grasp the scoring system, but I'm kind of piecing things together. You have to earn enough points to pick your border (difficulty? kinda) for the next stage which means you want to do well enough to get back on to the green if things are going sour.

but for some reason it didn't let me do that on stage 4 when I credit fed? I'm not sure i understood it. Even with credit feeding this is a pretty marvelous game.
