>game has quick saves

do you feel the need to put arbitrary rules for yourself?

Nope. And I'm a happier, well-adjusted person for it.

Sometimes, but I always ends up asking myself "How was the game designed to be played" I guess quick saves make sense in like sandbox games but usually a dumb idea

It depends on the game. In Thief for instance I always restart from beggining of the level (at some point I got used let things roll if I got caught instead of giving up and had more fun doing that too), but playing Commandos I found that restarting the entire level every time I fucked up was too boring, so I ended up using quick save very often when I played these games.

Tell your gram she's pretty damn cool for beating Doom 2 on Ultraviolence.

When I was younger I always felt compelled to use quick saves to never take any damage every. Probably took twice as long as I needed to beat Half Life 2
