i didnt even fucking know there was a difference between the US and J-pan versions. i picked up the JP version long ass time ago in like 2000 just cause it was first time i had found a japanese game sold locally

is Future the same way with different content?

>> No.7389073

>>7389060
Not as far as I know.

The JP version has a few actual differences, but had a later release known as De La Jet Set Radio (Jet Set Radio Deluxe I'd dub it as), where it was the american version but with Japanese localization. The original, as far as I know, is hard to find.

- Cube's outfit changed from Japan to Murica
- Bosses are spread out instead of being a tight knit group ready to spray
- Enemies are much more aggressive
- Skip straight to Rhinos after the first batch of stages
- Graffiti changes
- Name changes and even a slight model change, even though they reuse the original models and didn't bother animating the new ones made for the character select screen. (Mew is a prime example.)
- Combo has Pirahna's challenges very early
- Mew has exclusive challenges in Kogane that aren't present in the american release for someone else.

That's about it as far as I remember at the moment.

They definitely have a different feel to them than the original stages but I think they’re pretty strong in atmosphere and design.
I mean the whip enemies are pretty annoying but honestly that’s the case with most enemies in the game. Even the tear gas guys early on are kind of aggravating, and the helicopters in Kogane Cho can be real shits at times.
The enemies in this game aren’t designed to challenge you. They’re designed to fucking hassle you, which is actually pretty cool and fitting in this case.

>> No.7390204

>>7390187
Personally, I'd be fine with the hassle, it's just the wack hit detection I have an issue with where you have to bait them out.

For me, I kind of like Bantam Street but loathe Grind Square. Now that I think of it, the skyscraper heavy levels are the worst part of both games. That and the sewers.

>> No.7390238

>>7390230
Sewers in JSR aren't too bad honestly. For me, it's Benten-cho's CRAMP in the early levels and Bantam's enemies.

Outside of that, Grind Square isn't honestly as bad, the electric shocks can be dodged on the top side, if you just jump at the right angle to your left, you can go down it without much issue. The only fuck you I have with grind square is the goddamn tag on the big sky scraper to your left. You go on the elevator with just a little bit of extra elevation, grind down it normally, but just keep on it until you meet the big skyscraper over there. Just turn a slight and you can tag it without much issue. BUT FUCK ME DID IT SUCK TRYING TO DO IT.

I love the sewers, you can do some pretty wacky shit on them. The more cramped segments of every level are the best parts (the sewers in kogane, the park in shibuya, the billboards in benten), in my opinion, for how the clunky design allows for more complex movements.

>> No.7390412

Dude, you know the street lamp in the park? Grinding from the slide over to it is probably the hardest thing in the game imo. You have to basically tap dance on the rails to even pull it off. You mean from the trunk to the lamp? that doesn't even seem possible, if it is then I agree. I’m not sure I’d call it glitchy. There are interrupted trick animations when pulling things off like this sure and the midair control can feel wonky at times but overall I think the fact that the engine and these systems allow you to get creative like this speaks to how well it’s designed. It’s not a complex trick system by any means, nor is it anything close to a simulation, but it really comes down to playing with your environment in creative and fun ways, which is the heart and soul of actual skating.

>> No.7390564
