How do you guys store your older games? I have a pretty substantial amount of NES and Sega carts. They're in storage most of the time, need a better way to do it. I'd like to have a bunch of the old-school sleeves but think they need some better protection for long term survival.
Thought about putting all of them in ziplocs and then in a plastic bin. Will that degrade the plastic? Your guys solution?

Just keep them in boxes somewhere away from light, and it should be fine.

On the other hand, I'd like to know what the best way of organising games is.

I do but it doesn't work as well as I like. I still have to clean them every time I use them. I really need to get a connector with more pins for my NES. I figure bags would keep them from getting as much dust, but I seem to remember somewhere somebody asking that question for toys or something and somebody saying that bags would degrade plastic

I call it "Retro Tower." Its just a plastic tower of shelves. I got mine at a flea market but you can get really similar ones at walmart

The higher shelves are smaller. Genesis fits perfectly. N64 fits only if you have room to lean them back a little. I think these towers go for about $25

It is. But its the best way to store if you play frequently. I don't know if there are any long term effects as I have only been using it about a month, but its great for finding the game you want to play and quickly putting away the rest

I just put them on shelves.

I've got too many games for one of those, besides as stated it doesn't look very good (which you agree on so, immaterial). I don't play them often so I'm thinking more long term (for now anyway)

I stack them 18 or 19 high and one deep. I need to get some more shelves because it is hard to get the bottom games out.

Yes. Yes it is. And when I get a new game, I have to re-alphabetize them all.

Figured. Stacking them is a good use of space, but it has such caveats. I think an ideal thing would be little slots on the shelves to put them in, like the pic. I thought about trying to find something like that an modify it, but whether or not that would work, who knows. I guess if I got ambitious enough I could construct my own.

NES plastic sleeves for dust and shelves to keep them organized and undamaged. Smaller shelves meant for CDs and DVDs tend to work very well. Side by side is much better than stacking.

I think clear plastic cases are overkill, but certainly an option. If you're worried about light, either black out windows or put them in a room with no windows to start with. Use LED lighting, they only emit in the visible spectrum and shouldn't damage or fade anything.

The best way to display N64 games is in their original boxes. All other ways are shit.

>> No.744082

I just placed a big order for about 50 pre-made cases for just over $150. This will give about 90% of my NES, SNES, and N64 games a case for my collection. I don't quite have enough to do the rest, and the rest are mostly just random crap games that I don't care about. I hope they arrive soon.

I would have made my own, but the 100 empty plastic cases would have ran me about $82, and then another $40ish to get the box art printed out at Staples. Then I would have to spend time cutting them out, inserting them, which would have just been a headache if I messed one up.

At that price, better to just spend the extra $30 and have all the headache taken care of. Hopefully they'll get here soon.

>Keep GB-C/A games in binder with 3x3 card sheets to keep some semblance of order.

I'd really like a more elegant way to store my handheld games. The binder is good on space and all, but it does leave some things to be desired.

For SNES/N64 games, you could get yourself a label maker and label the top, works pretty well with my PAL SNES/SFC stuff and doesn't leave any residue.

Just these and scattered about my place. But I only have like 28 NES games (all I deem as worth having a physical copy of).

If I was a completionist I would have special shelving for them like I do with my comics.

I actually prefer the poster you are replying to if you are speaking in terms of pure aesthetics.

As a pure collection, I agree with you.
