Is Fallout 2 still worth playing?

>> No.7376949

Its a very good game, but you have to remember... The 90's brainwashed a lot of people, really badly. You'll find reddit/facebook/twitter tier pop culture humor/references all throughout the game. Just try and pretend its still the 90's and you'll love it.

You have to look past the scientology and just enjoy the rape

Tag your desired combat skill and invest like two levels worth of skill points into it. There, you hit every early game enemy almost always.
Imagine complaining about sucking early game when using some cookie cutter late game oriented build lmao.

I dislike how you get nothing but a shitty spear till you get to klamath though. I dont wanna put any points into melee lmao.

Maybe it's because I'm used to playing harder CRPGs in the 90s, but it amazes me that Fallout 2 manages to filter so many people.

You know you don't have to fight at all until you get to Klamath? Of course it's not like you need to fight anything after you get there, either.

Yes you are and you can finish it without entering combat mode once. Unless you are playing a mentally deficient character.

A virtual dice roll does not invoke any skill or competence from the player. If anything, wanting the computer to roll a random damage number is more zoomer-like than, say, just having a fixed chance to always hit but having the damage be reduced as distance from you and your target increases.

Fallout 1 is better IMO

Hmmmm, if only there were ways to improve the odds of those virtual dice rolls into your favor.

>> No.7378068

It's still a dice roll nonetheless and part of the reason I dislike RPGs so much. At least FO1 has a nice atmosphere.

>> No.7378087

>>7378068
You've not played the game much, did you. Hit chance is irrelevant after like level 3 or 4, which you can get easily from quest exp, and damage rolls follow closely at level 9, possibly sooner because you can get good weapons rather easily and you don't even have to fight for them. Or you can just ignore fighting all together and your dice rolls don't even come into play at all.

Nope. You can pass around Cameron in variety of ways, too, so you don't even have to fight him.

I couldn't look past it anon. I did enjoy the sex stuff but that Scientology parody is just the worst, most embarrassing garbage. It's the main thing I remember about the game now. My second strongest memory is of talking with some rats or something and disliking it for some reason that I no longer recall. But I guess that must have been a stupid storyline too. My third strongest memory is of the comedian in some casino or something making a joke like "Radscorpions?? What's so rad about them?" He's supposed to be a bad comedian and it's an appropriately stupid joke but it hit me the right way and I sincerely laughed at it and still find it stupidly funny.

Unless you ARE a scientologist, which is in itself nonstop embarrassment and humiliation, the hubologists aren't worth being bothered by even if you don't like them. They are just a very short-lived faction in one of the last areas of the game that you never even have to interact with if you don't feel like it. If you don't enter their base, your exposure to them is 1 person in NCR talking nonsense and then people in robes throwing plasma grenades as press gangs in encounters around SF. Ineffectual. You're going out of your way to bother yourself if you find they affect the overall game for you.

Gog, with unofficial patch.

Make sure to tag Speech, and not Throwing, First Aid or Gambling. AP is everything in combat; every type of combat-focused character is best with max Agility as a result, and don't reduce AP with a trait. A character with 3 or lower Intelligence has few skill points and is "stupid", thus has a lot of dialogue and quest options impossible; stupid is its own special playthrough (high Int also gates a number of conversation choices, more than Charisma. Since you can raise Speech as a skill, Charisma's main use is your party member cap - every even number raises your party member limit by 1, odds are useless).

You can make a character who is shit at combat and finish, or too uncharismatic for a big party. You shouldn't make a character with no combat, brains OR charisma, however. The game gives you a lot of different ways to make your choices useful, but a 1 Ag, 1 In, 1 Ch character with Gambling, First Aid and Bartering tagged and the -2 AP trait is possible to create, and the game isn't going to magically provide you the means to win if you dodged all ways to be useful.

>AP is everything in combat; every type of combat-focused character is best with max Agility as a result
AP should be based on your weapon. Max agility is not optimal for every build.

>> No.7380982

>>7380918
They all wind up dividing evenly into either 10 or 12 AP. Remember that Bonus Rate of Fire and Bonus HtH Attacks will be decreasing the AP of your attacks by 1, one way or another.

>> No.7381095

Also you can mash A to enter combat mode before anyone gets a turn against you in encounters. Perception also determines how far from them you start. Keep these two in mind for a stealth or fragile character, because this game can and will start an encounter with a man right next to you taking a turn with a machine gun if you choose not to manage this factor.

Most definitely yes. Just remember to install the unofficial patch (NOT the Restoration mod, the patch and the mod are thankfully separate) to get the right endings and avoid few annoying bugs.
