At this point I hardly consider it safe to buy retro games online. If you buy a retro game on eBay, you're getting a Chinese fake cartridge. That's just what the situation is now.

Most of them are listed as reproductions. If a bootleg is listed as authentic you can challenge it and ebay will refund your money (once per year I think). Then you get a free bootleg game.

There used to be a Chinatown in my nearest metropolis, but they got rid of everyone by pricing them out. That where I thought I got good deals on new games but they ended out to be Chinese bootlegs.

Some telltale signs they are a knockoff:
- they come with English instruction pamphlet
- there is no barcode on the spinecard
- no ESRB rating on the cover
- English on the back cover instead of Japanese
- specifically mentioning "Chinese" in English in the language options

At $20 new sounds like a good deal when they go for $60, but just know when the prices are too good to be true.
