So I've been in and out of this thread this week and it's had me doing some research. I think I've pretty much firmly established a definitive answer. As I said before, the best controller for emulation is the controller for the system you're emulating. I've also recently become a fan of the Wii for emulating purposes.

Well there's this guy, Sparrow and his clever little Brazilian ass decoded all the classic controllers' timings and written a PIC that detects and converts them to Wii Classic Controller. It's all open source so you can use his circuit in whatever you want.

He sells one (currently sold out) that has a 9 pin serial type plug on it so you can plug Sega and Atari controllers into that but you just need a straight through adapter cable made from a controller extension cable to plug every other console's controllers into it (none have more than 9 wires).

He makes a USB one but since the Wiimote has well established Bluetooth drivers the Classic Controller one is 100% compatible with PC and Android too.

So that, in my expert opinion, is the best controller for emulators.
