If the difficulty of a game is from the time it takes to grind, then it isn't actually difficult, it's simply a time vampire, and speeding up gameplay via glitches or tech is not cheating.

I only beat games I find appealing the normal way.

If your game is gutter trash I will use the full extent of emulation capabilities to beat it so I can have a right to trash on it. I have a leg up savescumming my way to the end than the people who never beat it.

if you're using speedups specifically to grind, then yeah. there's no merit in completing a game by grinding anyway, might as well go all the way and cheat even more
if you're playing normally and fighting a normal amount of encounters, just what's on your path as you complete the story, you're just making this shit faster and it's fine

Save states are great, it's just that using them to cheat your way through the game is cheating. You're effectively playing a different mode/version of the game if you have unlimited tries. Cheating can be great too and make games more interesting, everybody loved Game Genies back in the day. Save states are great for practicing difficult sections and suspending the game when you need a break too.
