when did you walk into gamestop for the first time, and what game did you buy? what experiences do you have there? will you miss them?

>> No.7343107

I can't remember when our Funcoland turned into Gamestop. Only that the mall across the street had a Gamestop, so we ended up having two across the street from each other. Google maps is telling me the mall one shut down at some point, though.

Same here except it was a Software Etc. that turned into a Gamestop in the mall the next town over with an Electronics Boutique-turned Gamestop across the street. We had an amazing Funcoland in town but it's been shit since it turned Gamestop.

>> No.7343343

I used to live in downtown Portland, OR (moved far away now lol) and the Gamestop by PSU was managed by this big fat greasy neckbeard but he always hired really hot tatted up stripper looking chicks. While they didn't know much about games, it sure brought the customers in.

Doom
Battle Arena Toshinden
Pandemonium!
They had everything system hooked up from NES to PS1 it was fun and they always carried games that were hard to find. It was funcoland that eventually became GameStop like everyones. I wouldn't miss them last time I went for an interview for a second job I thought I went to the wrong store. They have clothes and toys and dorky looking and acting staff and all the games where in the back. I looked around bought the cheapest PS3 game and left and never looked back.

There was only one cex store in my city and the morons who ran it thought it was ok to just give you the disc whenever you bought a game from them, not even kidding, you took the box manual and all to the counter and the guy took it and gave you the disc in a plastic sleeve, not content with that they also put a sticker on it, presumably so you couldn't pawn it off somewhere else. I went there once in 2016 to buy a copy of atelier rorona plus for the ps3 and left in disgust after witnessing a kid buying some CoD game for his xbone, paying the full $60 for it and leaving with the disc in his fucking finger because the jew clerk didn't want to give him the case.

got it from a electronic store along with Sunshine, we went to GameStop and I bought a used copy of Pikmin there

was pretty bummed that I had to get a memory card in order to save the game, not sure if we went the next day or the same day to the mall again to grab one

I traded in a gamecube to buy a ps2 after vice city came out. So I got a new ps2 and a used copy of vc. Got home and vc didn't work right at all, kept getting disc read errors. Went back to get store credit towards a new copy. The dude there gave me some whole speech about it's not the disc it's the ps2 lasers, blah blah blah. Yeah right retard, the new copy worked 100% and that 39001 ps2 was run 24/7 for months at a time repeatedly

Did anybody else's local Funcoland have bare concrete floors and all the NES peripherals haphazardly piled on a single shelf between 1997 and 2002?
Of the seven different stores (3 EB, 2 Babbage's, 1 Funcoland, 1 Software, Etc.) around here that became Gamestops, that one was the only one where the shopping experience was briefly improved by it.

>> No.7348325

I tried to trade in my Guitar Hero guitar when I was moving to a new city. The clerk only offered me $5 in store credit. Ok, whatever. But he needs to see my ID. Reach into my back pocket... oh shit, forgot my wallet today. "Sorry can't help you bud". I was so pissed I threw the guitar down on the sidewalk and drove away.
