What were they smoking when slapping these levels together. The carnival level is a clusterfuck.

this is the most bare fps ever, it used the turok engine and has cool voice acting but every level is just a big empty space with some enemies here and there and nothing else, if you play it you can see what i mean.

Bubsy 1's biggest problem by far is Bubsy's physics, his vertical speed is far too high and the camera doesn't cooperate too well. He outspeeds Sonic in all aspects in the worst ways possible. Bubsy 2 is even worse, his physics are the same but the levels are claustrophobic and filled to the brim with things that are both hard to see and capable of killing you. I've been saying for years that if you fixed his physics it would make it a legitimately good platformer.

Bubsy 3D is only redeemable as a coaster.

I think the original Bubsy's biggest problem, was that the game designers has no clear plan. It feels like they took elements from Sonic and other games and mashed them all together. The original Bubsy is still the best one.

I replayed it recently. Thought it was great as a child, but my god is the level design mediocre. Most of the challenge is from the shitty control and camera, but the actual level design is basic and repetitive.
>jump up on large platform at awkward camera angle. wait 5 seconds for a slowly moving platform. jump again.
>Repeat four more times.

What’s bad about Outcast?

The verticality in some of the Cloud City levels was tricky but once you got the hang of them they were pretty fun to play, unless you walked off one of the many platforms without handrails.

The later levels in the Imperial bases and Jedi Temple were dope.

I played through and 100%d it for the first time last year. It felt rushed.
Croc 2 at its worst points feels borderline unfinished. At its best points it's slightly better than the first. There are maybe 3-4 levels total that I remember being good.

No. And i dont understand why e celebs pretend its leaps and bounds better than the first croc. Even though croc 2 technically has better level design and bosses, going from a linear map to a soulless hub world and boring missions ruins everything I liked about the first game. Croc 2's levels are long mazes that forces you to dedicate a half an hour on. Croc 1 is just pick up and do basic platforming

Gex was made originally for the 3DO, which was Crystal Dynamic's target audience. I guess the game was targeted at the "nick-at-nite" crowd of the 90's. If that makes any sense.

>I guess the game was targeted at the "nick-at-nite" crowd of the 90's. If that makes any sense.

To add more. Gex the character falls asleep at his giant TV, late at night, while binge watching re-runs of old TV shows. He gets sucked into a TV realm, where is enters into TV themed levels, and spouts of dated 1970's and 1980's TV references, done by a stand up comedian (for the NA market). The Gex Series was aimed more at the Gen X audience of the 1990s than any other group. As Crystal Dynamics probably realized that this group makes up the largest portion of the 3DO user base. It was more skewered at older audiences without going into M rated territory. Gex was the mascot for the 3DO system, and became the company mascot for Crystal Dynamics (like Gex being on the box art of Soul Reaver), for a short while.

Gex lore is surprisingly wild. I think his father died on a freak accident and he started spending his entire life in front of the television as a coping mechanism.

There's also a big Austin Powers influence starting in the second game, so definitely not aimed at little kids.

Yeah, Gex becomes addicted to TV as a coping mechanism for his missing father. I'm not sure if Gex: Enter the Gecko parodies Austin Powers much. I would imagine that the movie was in cinemas when this game was in development. There are Austin Powers references in the game, but the game itself is really parodying Sean Connery James Bond and old TV shows like Get Smart as well. Gex Enter the Gecko relies less on TV references and goes for more generalized pop culture references. Enter the Gecko is a reference to Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon. The third Gex Games really digs into Austin Powers references.

The levels may be wacky, but atleast theyre fun to traverse. for an early 3d platformer, gex had surprisingly detailed levels filled with all sorts of stuff to look at and interact with.

The last game Gex made an appearance in was Hots Shots Golf 2 for the PS1. It's almost like Gex was done with being a video game mascot and went into retirement and took up golfing:
https://youtu.be/bC-bUCjBHXI?t=145

The character did also apear in two games on the GBC.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLilHvarm0o

But outside of that Gex, never left console generation 5. Gex was created on the 3DO (Early gen 5 console)and retired with the PS1 and N64 (later gen 5 consoles). Crystal Dynamics couldn't get the series on generation 6 consoles, for whatever reason.

Good, we didn't have to see gex die like lara croft or become a cursed franchise like sonic. Gex did exactly what he was created for, entertaining a somewhat niche audience then leaving before he overstayed his welcome. Though a gex reboot would make sense. Instead of t.v. it would be internet culture he mocks after waking up from an infomercial induced coma and rez could be in control of google. I can only imagine the catch phrases he would say.
"Jeesh, I thought bukkake was a japanese theatre"

"why would i want to be friends with all these people from highschool, i had just forgotten about them"

"over 50 genders, but only 2 types of genitals, wheres dr. Kevorkian when you need him?"

"T.v. with no commercials and only 10 bucks a month... Am i in heaven"

"Who knew a rainforest could provide 2 day free shipping on chainsaws"

"Attention zuckerberg, im actually a reptillian, it is not a conspiracy"

"I know more about ancient aliens than i do about taxes... Can you write off tinfoil hats?"

"Its tail time, but not at the pride parade, that would be embarrassing"

"Whole foods? You mean i was only getting half the food before?"

"Watching a toilet paper commercial on your phone while taking a dump is something i never thought i would experience"

"You think bill cosby called drugging and raping women a fat albert?"(probably wouldn't make the cut)

"You see, the earth was round, but now its flat... Were being made into a giant space pizza, the sun is the oven and we are the toppings."

I would have at least liked to see Dreamcast/ PS2 ports of Enter The Gecko and Deep Cover Gecko. There already is a PC port of the second game for Windows 9x:

https://youtu.be/cAGVc2qwlo0?t=288

and possibly could have ported this version to the DC/ PS2. Or made a new port for deep Cover Gecko.

Maybe they could make a reboot with Nikki and Gex's weird humanoid Gecko children who are addicted to internet streaming services?
