I used to have the entire ps1/ps2, snes, nes and megadrive PAL libraries, I had to sell them due to covid closing my company, I actually don't regret it and sold them at new low prices, whoever bought Ducktales 2 for nes from me got the best deal it has ever been at.
I made sure everything I owned was dumped.

That's one collection that never made sense to me to get.
I don't know how the USA library is but the euro library has shit like a hundred titles from Phoenix Games all of which are and some of which are super expensive. Also at least two dozen duplicates that are basically re-releases under different companies which would be hell to hunt down as well.
Not the dumbest thing of course, that'd be variant collecting with shit like regular and Platinum/Greatest hits, different language releases, misprint cases with typos and the stupidest way to collect PS2 games which is a complete collection of silver bottom CD variants.

Those studies are talking about CD-Rs. Factory pressed discs are different and aren't prone to disc rot unless there was a manufacturing defect. Which if after 25+ years your discs aren't showing signs of rot, they're not going to magically start rotting. If there was a defect to cause the rot, the rot would have started 25 years ago when the disc was pressed and you would be seeing it by now.

And no, pinholes are not disc rot. Pin holes are top layer damage and are just a sign that some idiot mishandled the disc at some point and damaged the top layer. CDs only have a thin lacquer layer to protect the top data layer. It's very easy to damage it if you're retarded.

That's referring to backing up data onto CDs. So again, CD-Rs, not factory pressed CDs.

I'm, just hoping you have nothing undumped, It shouldn't be lost to arrogance and hope in glues and lacquers. We'll be here for you when you need us, we'll share our dumps with you to replace you data.

>> No.7327310

>>7327268
I don't have anything undumped because I don't collect useless things like 30 year old CD-Rs of prototypes. Those are degrading because they're CD-Rs. The dye breaks down.

Factory pressed CDs don't have this problem because they don't rely on burning into a dye layer, the data is instead physically pressed into the plastic with a reflective metal layer that is pressed into the plastic and then sealed with a layer of lacquer. If the disc doesn't have manufacturing defects and you take care of it, there's no reason it shouldn't last for a good long while. Even with Pinholes, the data is still there, the reflective layer has just been removed in some spots. In theory you could repair that damage by filling in the holes with new reflective material.

Finally, CD-ROMs have a pretty advanced form of error correction. So even a disc that's full of pinholes can still be read just fine. In fact I have a copy of Megaman 8 that has pinholes in it. It was a cheap copy I got for $20 on ebay back in 2007. It still plays just fine in my Saturn. I've ripped it a few times over the years and compared the data track's checksum to the checksum of the redump rip, and they match. In short, you've bought into a panic that's no where near as big of an issue as you've been lead to believe.

Amusingly, I do have nearly 30 year old CD-Rs that are just fine. Decent quality CD-Rs can and do last for quite some time, if stored properly. Those recently dumped Sonic CD prototypes were on 25+ year old CD-Rs, and they nevertheless all dumped without error.

Some people actually like videogames, I played games back then because i like games and i play games now for the same reason i did back then but for retro hipsters like you playing games is just some nostalgiafagging themed park ride for your emotional childhood issues. thats why you choose the worse possible option that looks and runs the shittest. Only for people like you a shitty CRT and plastic is comfy and the actual game is an afterthought,

You probably listen your music on cassette too and pretend everyday that the world didn't advance past 1995. Sad larp really

If you told 10 yr old me in 1995 that i could have every game i wanted and i didn't needed a shitty ass crt that looks awful and i didn't needed consoles to play them i would have been static, a dream come true.
