Are sealed ps1/2 , n64/gc, and other types of memory cards that are still sealed/brand new (as in never used at all since their distribution) will keep better memory than the one that are being used on a yearly basis, or those that are used less than once a year?
Or are they all on the same foot (other than the x.x percent failing because shit from the start)?
What's the estimated life for each?
Could you solder new roms/chips (w/e formats they may be) to circumvent failing ones ?
I'm aware we can now have more than a tera on the size of a zit, is that ridiculously tiny size of rom/chip still being produced?

What does this have to do with collecting? Playing on hardware and collecting are not the same thing.

Has anyone made software that can move saves from a ps2 memory card to a ssd? Something that works with free mcboot?

N64 memory cards are battery backed; they're all useless now unless you've changed the button-cell.

Why did the N64 even have them? Its really dumb that some games like Castlevania require them while others like Mario Kart use them for only some things.

Ideally you'd save your progress, unlocks, etc. on your cartridge, and you'd just use a controller pak to save things like ghost data, created wrestlers, etc. to take to other people's houses to use on their cartridges.
On-cart saving was more expensive to developers, or sometimes it didn't have enough space to accommodate all the data, so they required controller pak saves instead.
