According to my friends working on dumping the rom, the custom FPGA puts a barrier on trying to run this on any Genesis emulator. Basically the emulators need to be updated in order to run the rom. Like we have to trick the rom into thinking that it's running on an actual Sega Genesis.

There is a nother game i really hate more cave, mame devs, license and a few people then Fonzie. It's Dodonpachi Saidaioujou.
First of all this stupid game never get's a port for PC because Degica is a sleep and lazy, was need shoutime ask for a port to EXA-Label the fucking game is hardly expensive, no one gives a shit to port it, and for Xenia we need a fucking new computer because AVX is the shit to complicate even more the situation. MAME devs need to wait 10 years for the licenced get expired, the game already as been dumped on the lastest PCB version and no one who posses the original PCB doesn´t give a shit to help with. We all have enough PC speed to play the game. Why i need more mods if i need to play the game one time? Tired watching the gameplay on youtube, that doesn´t help me to goal my situation, and for xbox 360? I won´t waste time to buy that console for one game.

As far as i know the FPGA on paprium does two things. The scaling pop up faces, at like 3 or 4 points throughout the game. And the additional audio channels. Which you can disable via the game options. So the whole function of the FPGA was to prevent easy rom dumps.

Has anyone glanced at the text to see which translation is more accurate? Well, it worked for Pier Solar (nobody managed to dump the flash ROM directly because of that epoxy and it took something like 2 or 3 years to get a working dump and figuring what the fpga was doing using some advanced hacking techniques).

And Paprium protection against dump worked so far as the only thing you get when reading the cart is a 64KB troll game. And getting the correct ROM using this method seems very unlikely although the protection was mire or less figured: you need to read the ROM soon enough after the cartridge has been powered up, exactly like a real console would do (i.e same timings)

It's quite obvious that C was used for this. I've been programming with SGDK for around two years and I see the same problems in gameplay videos as I do with my own code. these are the limitations of using high level languages for timing critical functions. this is why I can safely say you're full of shit. you can add whatever custom libraries you want to SGDK or whatever C devkit but it you need to program everything entirely in m68k assembler to get the maximum performance out of the megadrive otherwise you get horrendous slowdown as what I witnessed in this garbage game.

Yeah basically, we need to figure out how to get the rom out of the cartridge without getting the shitty minigame, and then any emulator is going to have to emulate the Datenmeister for it to work.
Kevtris started looking into it to get it fixed on the Mega SG and while he isn't going to try to dump it he did find some info that might be helpful:

-The minigame comes up if the cartridge isn't run within a set amount of time, probably as an anti-dumping measure, so it swaps in the minigame code if execution on the main code doesn't start (such as when dumping)
-Datenmeister DMAs graphics into RAM, apparently only the HUD and text might be coming directly from the ROM without being fucked with by the Datenmeister first. So in that case the chip would absolutely have to be emulated to get anything playable on screen (else you'd have a game where the logic is all running but no graphics)
-The correct header for the game is (c)T574 2018.DECPAPRIUM (c) WATERMELON GAMES PAPRIUM (c) WATERMELON GAMES - 16BIT FOREVER! GM T-574116-0
So if someone can get that then they probably have the right ROM
-Kevtris thinks the game may only be dumped by removing the flash and directly reading it out. Anyone want to destroy their cart for this?

Yes, the "chip" generates audio but it does NOT generate all the audio. There is actual FM and PSG being used as well and a simple look at the sound test screen and listening to the music proves it. There's still good FM being done it's just augmented with PCM like old arcade boards

What do you mean and what are you arguing exactly? That it wasn't done on purpose? Off course it was. Is it stupid and ineffective protection ? Maybe, time will see. The reason it is what starts on mega sg if you don't configure it to start the game as soon as possible is simply because of that stupid protection against ROM dump, nothing more. Basically, be it a mega sg or a retrode or any dumping device that can read ROM from the cartridge, if you apply 5V power on the cart input pins but wait too long before reading the ROM (which is the case with Mega SG when you boot the menu first or with any dumping device that waits for user commands before reading the ROM), all you get is repeated code/data with the troll game in the first 64K. So yes, it is definitively deliberate (but hopefully for mega SG owners easily fixable... and apparently already fixed in upcoming firmware by forcing hard power on when this game is started from menu).

Sega has a long history of using user made content. They used KGen in Sega Smash Pack in the 90s, Gens in Sonic Mega Collection, Girigiri in a 00s PC release of Nights, and so on. The one single time I remember they sending C&D was SOR Remake, which kind of really was SOR repackaged.
