The Gamecube controller's face button layout is amazingly comfy, probably the best of any controller I've ever used. and I love the octagonal casing for the analog stick, makes lining up jumps or using precise directions in fighting games easy.

Beyond that though I can't stand it. The build quality is fucking terrible, we must have gone through at least 5 controllers during the system's lifetime in my house and we only have 2 left that are functional (though of course in poor condition).
The shoulder buttons feel like absolute shit, you can feel them scraping across the plastic as you push them in. Hell you can even hear it.
The lack of a second left bumper or the ability to click the sticks in made what few multiplats that got brought over inferior in control setup.

i remember before the OGbox came out, Microsquanch was going around to a bunch of state fairs with big demo set ups and thats where I first got to try the system out. the Duke was too meaty for my little baby hands, so by the time I got the system, they started bundling them with the smaller controller and I really liked it. Cut to about a decade later and I am now a big boy and I decide to pick up a Duke. And god damn, I actually fucking love it now that I can properly hold it. One of my favorite controllers actually. This is the real greatest offense of the Duke and Xbox controllers in general. It would be nice if the Duke had bumpers as well. Playing recently through games that demand you to hold down the right triggee nearly the whole time (driving in Burnout 3, running in The Warriors) my finger was starting to get tired. But I admit the Duke shape actually is really comfortable.

The Wii U has fucking nothing in comparison. I own almost the entire exclusive library and there is not a single invdividual game that I thought "this system is worth owning for this." If you honestly don't think Perfect Dark is one of the best FPS ever made you're either some multiplayer only retard or a deluded Quake boomer. Perfect Dark's campaign design and overall level of content far exceeds most other games in the genre, the only flaws it has are related to the hardware it's stuck on rather than the design of the game itself.

Puyo Puyo Tetris isn't as good as Pokemon Puzzle League and isn't exclusive either. Pokemon Puzzle League remains to this day the best version of Tetris Attack/Panel De Pon ever released. Or at least tied with the Japanese only Gamecube Panel de Pon that's just a port of Pokemon.

A good chunk of those systems were worth owning at the time of release because their games were actually amazing and their libraries were generally really good. If you didn't have these systems at the time they were current you were missing out.

There was no benefit to buying a Wii U. You weren't missing out on anything. There was no must-have game that convinced you the system was worth it. No Ocarina level masterpiece. No game that shifted the paradigm or raised the bar and set a new standard. The best games on it were just "pretty good." Again, when Zelda Dynasty Warriors is your standout title that's pathetic.

Yes. Nintendo wanted to make a console that was all about the games but chose to use a controller that did not have as many inputs as the already wildly successful PS2. Along with the tiny dvds, this made porting many games over from the consoles not worth it. The gamecube as a whole was a mess. While the N64 was significantly different from the PS1 hardware wise, the gamecube was just a slightly stronger PS2 with less games and no dvd playback.
