ITT: Games you feel should be considered classics, but aren't

EVO has such a fantastic OST and art direction, full of secrets and surreal moments, and tons of replayability.

Bubsy was cool.

I feel this should have more recognition. Easily one of the top 5 games on MD/Genesis and a blast to play in co-op

Hey, I played the shit out of this when I was a kid. Never made it too far though.
Game has a pretty interesting and novel idea for the time it was released, have not seen other games like that.

I also played E.V.O. a lot

>> No.7313571

>>7312195
Correction: E.V.O. has a fantastic OST for the first two parts of the game.
Then...

Jesus, that song sucks so much. I still love the game.

I wish the whole game was as well-designed as the ocean chapter, but the level design really takes a nosedive afterwards. It's sad.

>> No.7313940

I love E.V.O. It has its problems but it's one of the best SNES games.

It's like they put a lot less effort on the amphibian and dinosaur chapters

>> No.7314037

EVO is a game I'm surprised they've never bothered to remake. It's an amazing base held back by lots of pretty easily fixable issues.

NOX.
The game was ahead of its time.
3 characters, 3 different branching paths.
Action RPG with great graphics.
Make your own spells.
Gauntlet style quest mode.
Honestly i like it more the Diablo 1.

Your current nickname is Cocksucker.

>> No.7314121

EVO was really interesting at the time but looking back I kind of just see a bunch of grinding areas strung together. The gameplay and progression systems are way ahead, but the level design just isn't good, and the expectation that you'd sit in a bland open area killing or feeding repetitively to unlock the best stuff is frankly MMO-like, in a bad way.

>> No.7314171

>>7314121
The grinding in E.V.O. is practically negligible. You can beat the game by walking forward and getting xp from whatever appears your way, specially with those special meats that give high xp.

Grinding isn't really an issue in E.V.O. at all unless you are trying to min/max or test different transformations

Nox is a good game but I rarely wanted to play it again after beating it.

All 3 characters play differently and start in different locations. The quest mode can get brutal. It has much replayability, more than diablo, and its more fun.

It's trash and forgotten for a reason.

Your opinion.
I think this game deserves classic status.
There is nothing else like it.

I'm the stealthiest namefag ever because my nickname on 4chan is Anonymous (I write "Anonymous" in the name field)

>> No.7314774

>>7314171

Yeah. I agree with anon's criticism about the levels mostly being grinding areas, but the fact that the grinding is light compensates for that. You do sometimes have to make your own fun in that kind of simple stage, since the game isn't providing you with a challenging scenario to engage with. But the combat engine gives you lots of different ways to attack and move around, and the evolution system lets you vary those whenever you feel like it, so it's easy to have fun just wrecking mindless enemies with your current body and imagining what you want your next body to be. (Obviously the game would be better with all of that AND interesting levels containing challenging opponents, but oh well, that's work left for romhackers to probably never get around to doing.)

Fun game but it’s a bit too short in my eyes. Also I think they should have made different path and ending with the evolution you are picking.

E.V.O is definitely a "cult classic" for the SNES. Everybody knows about it and the game has cost a lot on ebay for like a decade plus now.

One of the few games where I can't get the title melody out of my head. Is the music of the original PC-98 as based as well? I think it was PC-98, could be X68k dunno
