What's better, Fatal Fury or King Of Fighters? Also, do you think the SNK games deserved the fame of Street Fighter? Street Fighter obviously was the catalyst, but it's continued fame is what I mean.

Compare Capcom vs. SNK to SNK vs. Capcom. The inferiority of SNK in every single way is obvious. SNK was less innovative but also worse than Capcom. They had some good games but eventually they died from releasing a million Street Fighter II clones when Capcom was churning out Resident Evil and Dino Crisis instead.

Fatal Fury was good but it never was on the level of SF or KoF. it's a pretty comfy and soulful fighter, but it was a bit too close to SF yet without the polish/depth of the latter. the plane system was supposed to be the main difference, but it stayed gimmicky or broken until later installments of Real Bout when few actually cared. Garou scrapped planes altogether, and it's a good and fun game in its own right but with a very small roster and tons of OP stuff.
KoF allowed something vastly different than SF, the hop/run mechanics really changed the way the game played towards more pressure/rushdown style play, and the system/characters were deep and complex enough to keep the competitive scene thriving to this day. and of course the roster/lore is bigger than FF, with some great FG chars in there.

its a tough question, but without doubt games like KoF and samsho deserved recognition. whether they are better/worse than SF is up to preference.

Fatal Fury has the soul, but limited engine.
