LV1: Genesis version (has an extra level per "world"). Make sure to get a 6-button gamepad though.
LV2: SNES version unless you enjoy horribly dated prerendered visuals (which I unironically do actually).

LV2 on Playstation.
Voice acting is fun.

LV2 on Saturn

Don't listen to 16 bit poorfags

I will always recommend the snes one for lost vikings 1 since I have fond memories of playing it with a cousin as a kid and laughing my ass off at Olaf's comments. Growing up was a mistake.

Those visuals look nice but visual clarity has gone down the gutter.

The SNES version is the original; for somebody getting into it now it's a matter of whether you prefer the usual color palette and sound edge of that version, or the 5 extra levels of the Genesis one.

It's not the most technically impressive game ever, so I'm leaning for the extra content. Otherwise and in terms of handling theyre basically identical

SNES for both. Mega Drive had extra levels but they're all terrible.

Give them time. It's Blizzard's anniversary soon and the download links for The Lost Vikings, Blackthorne and Rock n' Roll Racing are hidden nowadays. You still can get them if you have a direct download link, but there's no option for them on "Download" page.

They'll probably relocate those to GOG. I also wouldn't be surprised if at least The Lost Vikings would get a mobile port.

You seem to believe yourself, that's perfectly fine
