Don't know. I think soul is related to applying creative thinking to overcome massive technical difficulties and deliver a good experience.
I think that the advancement of technology lifted most of those difficulties, leaving little room for what we call "soul", even if the result is technically better

Certainly not. The original design choices bred from the limitations of the day become completely void of creativity when there is an attempt to redo them with modern hardware. That's why a new game with revolutionary gameplay mechanics has always been the focus at Nintendo. Whatever space is left over gets used efficiently for a cohesive elegant art style.

I prefer the remake for the quality of life improvements, especially since you can choose to skip to specific hours. The boss fight with the 3rd boss is kinda fucked though, takes way too long compared to the original.
