6 map wad from 2006 by some Czech guy, it's not very good. 1st level you can run directly to the exit with no resistance, 2nd map is full of cramped awkward area and makes you shotgun a baron, map 3 is kind of ok but is very amateurish in layout, a lot of rooms serve no purpose at all and it's pretty easy. Map 4 is ok, mostly just a slaughter arena with very little going on. The next map is a terrible Dead Simple clone that has no weapons until you've killed about 10 arachnatrons, and tons of seemingly broken triggers, followed by the last map which is another boring slaughterfest with very few rooms. 2/5

D4V has brightmaps in software mode so I'm taking advantage. These are some textures I found in another D4V map. The round switches don't have brightmaps like the others, sadly, so I had to illuminate them. Also John Romero meme eyeswitch to kill players trying to play pacifist and spoil my traps

Yeah you're right. I was just thinking about when I was starting out Doom mapping I had trouble memorising what the linedef symbols (e.g. W1, SR etc.) meant and I didn't know that GZDoom Builder (pre-fork) had them. Could have saved me a bunch of trouble.

Any linux doomers out here? I have a couple issues with zandronum, for one i cannot run the game in OpenGL mode it always crashes (i tried GZDoom, and that worked fine in the GL renderer). Second, the game does not seem to recognize the numeric keys above the alphabet section as valid inputs, so i had to rebind weapons to the F keys. Any ideas on how to fix these things?

one anon so threads ago asked "why do wads also revert to slaughter in later maps".

one interesting thing are wads that get more "slaughter"-y, but actually easier. e.g., valiant has more monsters in final maps, but there's lots of open space and ammo, and it's easier than the earlier maps in the game IMO.

I've realized I don't consider "lots of enemies, ammo, and space" to be "slaughter" or even "bad slaughter", i just consider it bad mapping. for me, "slaughter" is like the slaughterfests, and sunlust: lots of enemies, but often cramped spaces and resource issues, meaning you have to be careful, use infinighting, have good spatial awareness, etc.

anyway, slaughter is good.

Deadline, a 3 map replacement for Doom (E1M1 - E1M3), made by Khorus in 2007.

It's a simple enough set of levels, making some decent challenge, with a few standout encounters. The prevalence of Pinkies makes me appreciate the Chainsaw a lot here, and Barons Of Hell are used fairly often, some might say to a tedious point, though I didn't think it was that bad.

It looks nice, nothing jawdropping in terms of visuals, no grand and extravagant linedef detail all over the place, but it uses the stock textures quite well and the levels all look appealing. Exploration is kinda so-so, the layouts are all pretty straightforward, progression is a little bit samey between levels (but it's only three, so it's not that noticeable), and there's not that many secrets to be found.

It's above average, a good 6 out of 10, there's nothing that's remarkable about the set, but nothing that seriously drags it down either. If you'd fancy a brief bit of Doom 1 fun, it's an alright choice.

If I were to complain about one thing with Deadline which bothered me though, it would be hurtfloors. You'll see blood flats, and those don't hurt, whatever, fine, that's rarely been consistent even in the original episodes, but being an E1 style set of levels, the fact that the green slime flats are used with prevalence, along with numerous of those warning signs, makes it quaint that these floors don't hurt to traverse at all.

That's not a serious mark against it or anything, but it's something that bugged me.

GzDoom has some inherent limitations with certain kinds of levels, the way the engine is built means that with a shitload of enemies and a shitload of linedefs, it will chug. It doesn't really matter if you have a PC that's powerful enough that you need to cool it with liquid nitrogen, the bottlenecks are in the software, and there's no simple way to get around them.

There's some things you can do, with the right hardware you can use the Vulkan renderer, which for some people do give a noticeable boost in performance, but it's still ultimately not gonna let you play some maps with a smooth and consistent 60fps.

Here is a map I'm working on. Limit-removing, tested in Crispy, for PrBoom use CL2.

The map uses the D4V gameplay mod, which I have not copy/pasted into my map yet. I included D4V.wad in the zip. Load order is D4V.wad first, then my map, so that the songs I picked will play.

At the risk of spoiling the map, I also included an example playthrough demo. The demo is intended to help you learn the new enemy behavior if you want to watch it. It's not a perfect gameplay demo, just me testing my map. The completion is demo3, the first two are goofy deaths.

Difficulty settings are not implemented, so if you struggle, switch to Skill 1 for 2x health and ammo (and a backpack to double ammo capacity, plus an early minigun)

I'm still gonna add more engagements, but the quad-cybermancubus fight is so cool that I wanted to share it.

Bandaging is a TEMPORARY FIX to a bigger problem. When you're bandaged, you cannot run or sprint, otherwise your wounds will open back up. Stapling yourself stops the bleeding faster, more reliably and properly fixes your wounds. Yes you're gonna have to deal with pain tremors afterwards but you can get your ass moving after stapling yourself. The only plus sides to bandaging wounds is being able to keep your armor on while doing it, it's infinite, weighs nothing, and you always have that option. But even then, it's VERY situational and most of the time you're better off stapling.

My idea was, once you grab the chaingun, the flood of zombies forces you into the pit to circle-strafe around the entire pit, similar to the cyber-manc section. However, you will die if you do not have invulnerability still active, I think, so I will remove the lost souls and pinkies etc

I like Slade. I initially used it because getting any form of Doom Builder to run on Linux is a nightmare (at least it was a year or so ago), but I have since fallen in love with it, and would probably use it even on Windows. the new mobile doom game may look cheap but if there's something interesting, it could lead to something new for metadoom
apparently, a screenshot shows a hell razer with yellow colors instead of red, shooting a triple laser
close to how i imagined eternal should bring him back
one of the bosses i saw from the one gameplay video was a grey haired zombie shooting 3 projectiles at once and they could reflect walls
