to environments with actual hills, not just sprites making up hills, like in Power Drift (pic related)?

Lucky & Wild kind of has it, but it's pixel trickery, like the stages in Street FIghter II or the water in Sonic 1

There is of course Virtua Racing, but they can't have been the first to use polygons in a racing game

Power Drift is literally just sprites making up hills. But it's still pretty impressive. I don't think there was a single instant it happened. It gradually progressed from stuff like Outrun or super Monaco where you have small inclines but not really "hills" to Power Drift where it really had enough power to throw shit all over the screen at insane speeds. I really like this old school Sega sprite scaling style. If I were a zoomie I'd call it soul.

SEGAY games had very convincing 3d environments. Galaxy Force II sprites appeared to have depth like voxels. I'd like to know how Yu partitioned those 3 CPUs.

1. That's the Genesis Hard Drivin'
2. That is also not the first racing game to use polygons

3. Power Drift came out the same year as Winning Run, and Lucky & Wild actually came out 1993, after even Virtua Racing already hit the scene in 92.
4. It is not using SuperEagle, the fonts actually look like that.
