Out of all the games on Genesis, this is the one that stuck out to me the most. It doesn't even feel like a genesis game it feels more like an experimental indie game that you would see today akin to Rain World. Its so incredibly unique.

How do you feel about Ecco the Dolphin, /vr/? Do you still play the games from time to time?

Ecco is awesome. Too many people sleep on the Dreamcast game, which is the best one in my opinion.

Why it so perfect on GameCube.

Is it as hard as people say or is the difficulty overhyped?

The Dreamcast game looks really dope. Should I finish the first two games in the series before I play that one?

It's the Ecco the Faggot thread for the 6th time this year.

The PS2 version has some extras, but they messed with the level design and lighting slightly.

Im playing it for the first time right now and I wouldn't really call it difficult, but it takes a lot of getting used to and there are some questionable design decisions like enemies being able to phase in and out of walls. You have an "echo" ability that feels like a projectile attack that should kill enemies but it basically does nothing. You have to dash into enemies to kill them which I have to say doesn't feel all that great and can get you into even worse situations by itself because when you dash you go FAST and its kinda hard to control Ecco for a second.

This is probably a good measure >>7281079 it has a few quite difficult sections but overall it's more just a very different style of gameplay than hard.

>>7281079
By the way, by doing the rescue quests in the first few levels you will learn different sonar abilities. The first is just confusion, it will make sharks stop and turn around instead of attacking. The second is the sonar dash, hit dash and sonar at the same time to send a wave that does damage. It's best to kill using the regular dash though since if you double tap while doing it the enemy will disappear in a little spiral of sparks rather than a cloud and after that won't respawn in the level unless you die. That becomes fairly important in some later levels where the waters are full of sharks and crabs.

If they're complaining about the beginning, they're greatly overhyping it. There are some pretty damn hard sections late in the game, though.

It's good, but what you want is the 1995 windows PC version with the Fixed and Enhanced patch. It has better audio, graphics, FMV cutscenes, and several difficulty options. You can find a download link here.

i think the reason most people have trouble with this game is due to the controls
compared to a lot of other genny games, the controls can feel rather "twitchy". maybe not as bad as a game like subterrania, but still VERY precise
i think the game wouldve been much more well-suited to being on a system with analog controls

It's pretty hard. Not in the most general sense, but just a frustrating game. You're constantly in a rush because of the need to get air, which isn't a big deal once you're experienced but until then is stressful for most people. Most people that I talk to say they like the game but that they don't get very far because the good graphics and relaxing aspect of it are overshadowed by the difficulty.
