Which design do you like more?

Left looks more aestheticly pleasing. Right has better hardware.

The SNES hardware is different too? I tought that was just the NES.

What makes you say that? Are you comparing the PAL version? Or the Japanese?

They're the same hardware dumbass.

>> No.7279331

Obviously left looks better
NoA wanted the American NES to aesthetically match with their VCRs and sound systems and remain inconspicuous which means hard lines and little color. The NES design even intentionally hides the cartridge so normies wouldn't realize it was a game console at first glance. The SNES continued a lot of this aesthetic forward and it looks like shit compared to the futuristic look of the super famicom.

>> No.7279381

Left looks better but also a lot more generic overall. Right looks just right for the era and thus ends up being a much more iconic design. This is why the SNES ended up being the main influence design-wise for Nintendo's consoles up to this day.

>> No.7279383

Left looks better, but the NTSC cars are way better looking.

True. I Don't think it's a problem, i guess in japan they figured people would keep the boxes.

Super Famicom and PAL SNES are the same in case some of you didn't know.

>> No.7279419

Why did Americans get rid of the coloured buttons? Isn't purple a bit boring?

>> No.7279425

Probably trying to keep a consistent color scheme. The purple goes pretty well with the gray.

Super Famicom is a million leagues better. But the original Famicom compared to the mutt version looks like dog shit.

American. The Super Famicom looks like a sad robot clown and that shade of gray is hideous.

>the futuristic look of the super famicom.
People say this but I just don't see it. The Super Famicom matches with the aesthetics of the Commodore 64 and Apple II making it look older than the SNES which is more in line with the IBMs of the early 90s.

Yes and it's weird how not consistent there is. I have 5 Super Nintendos, including the one i had as a kid and 3 Super Famicoms. Not a single one has turned yellow. But i see them at flea markets all the time.

>> No.7279834

I've seen some where the top half yellows but the bottom half doesn't, some where the controller ports yellow, others where it doesn't. Seems like the manufacturing for these was really inconsistent.

Its the fire retardent chemicals used in the plastic. They changed the formulation so later batches aren't as affected. It's why the systems will yellow in pieces and later revisions tend to not yellow at all.

SFC/Euro SNES in spades. Literally the only thing NatAm SNESes have going for them is the concave/convex controller buttons that you can tell between by touch.

I like the NA SNES console but prefer the SFC carts. The artwork on SFC carts/boxes is so fucking good.

>>7279419
In that time period, the aesthetic was all about lavender, teal, fuchsia, other muted colors, and often against dark grey or light grey cases. Here's an example, an SGI workstation from 1991. You can see similar examples in 3rd party sega controllers, in tracksuits, in sneakers, and elsewhere.

Probably because B, C, and D all rhyme. Imagine trying to clearly describe lengthy combos or unlock passwords on such a setup. A, B, X, and Y are all non-rhyming letters. Much better system.
