Bu..but King of Fighters was the original SNK version of Smash. It was meant to be a "best of" roster of the SNK fighting universe. Designed to get people interested in the other series that these character came from, like Samurai Showdown. . Though in order to get people more interested in the rosters, KOF added 3 character teams that the player would be able to sample playing more of the characters. Yes, they are great fighting games.

I never owned a Neo-Geo. But MVS machines use to be incredibly common where I live. It was not uncommon to see MVS machines with KOF 94 -98, mixed in with other fighting games. Or MVS machines with KOF only. I did get to play matches with other people.

What versions? From what I can tell this animation is intact in the arcade version in all regions up to 2003. The only thing they censor is the boob bounce on her idle stance in non-Japanese regions starting with 2000.

Out of curiosity, which KOF games are the fan favorites? here;'s a list of every game from 1994 to 2006. Which is the best jumping in point, for someone like me who hasn't played much of this series. I know I played one of these on an MVS, Maybe it was like '96? I have a feeling KOF '94 would feel to basic compared to the later games.

If you get Unibios instead of the stock NeoGeo BIOS, you can access its cheat menu with Start+Select(Coin). There you can enable Mai's idle jiggle and blood regardless of the chosen language.

King of Fighters are generally good to decent as far as fighting games go. The really good ones are : 98, 02 and XI (There are others as well but are omitted because of this boards rules). I also believe 03 was good, but it seems I'm alone in that thought.
