Is now a good time to sell off games since the prices are so inflated due to the pandemic?

>> No.7270405

post a pic of your actual games, and we'll see.

>> No.7270418

ill buy them for 3 dollars .

>> No.7270426

The sale prices are inflated as suddenly unemployed collectors with no income try to make profit from a collection they previously swore would never be sold.
But are there buyers willing to pay those prices? A lot of them are in a shit financial situation as well and those that aren't recognize inflated prices when they see them.

Are old games not just going to go up in price forever? The supply is only going to dwindle with time while basedboy demand will only increase as millennials remember the classics and wish to relive their childhood and collect them.

>Constant demand

Not true.
There will come a point where most of the collectors have either got everything they want or have been priced out of the market.
There will also come a point where those collectors start getting old, or dying, or bullied into selling by the gold digging whore they married.

When that happens, these things will be of very little interest to anyone who isn't a museum curator.

Theres probably one thing that is keeping the prices high and thats Nintendos brand loyalty. Nintendo is probably going to go the way of Disney in our far future, so Mario and Co. will never die in the public cultural zeitgeist. Mario will be there when your grandchildren are still alive, so the original games will probably still be worth a pretty penny, especially as cartridges start to corrode or fail or otherwise get destroyed with the steady passage of time. $1000 on a collection now is probably a $10,000 collection in 20 years maybe.

Of course that isnt a monstrous return for you investor types, but for a collector its better to jump on the boat now than later.

Fire Emblem Path of Radiance sat at $120 for a good year or two until the first stimulus checks came. Then it doubled for a while, and went back down to $120 about two months later. Now with the new checks, it's sometimes reaching $300. I dunno if it will drop all the way back down to $120 again, but it I'd expect at least back down to $150.

In that case, I'd be more suspicious of my copy of Dracula X. It was a gift, so I'm not sure really where it was bought. Sparkster, on the other hand was one of the first things I bought on Amazon. It was probably around 2003, and I got it for something like $20, so I doubt that it's a repro. Any telltale signs I should look for?

The discoloration is spot on even though it's not very aesthetic. And I'm pretty sure those labels were mostly printed in Mexico because it was a late release, also... look at the pcb board connections. If it looks brand new and fits way too tight in the system then it's most likely fake. If you own old games and collect you need to order the two gamebits. 3.8mm and 4.5mm. They're just nice to have.

Yeah that’s a bit egregious, even on eBay I’m seeing around 250-280 complete. Still glad you were able to make a profit anon, what did ya spend the money on?

In terms of my own pickups lately I am the proudest of getting Klonoa for PS1 at a thrift shop for 15 bucks. Also on an unrelated note I started picking up rarer Wii games since I expect them to spike in 5 or so years.

>> No.7274809

What Wii games are even worth grabbing? The Galaxys are a no brainer, I cant remember anything for the Wii that wasnt shovelware or just mediocre.

Some games will always be worth a lot of money, especially memed ones like Earthbound. But as a whole, most games will eventually have very little value.

A first print of On The Origin of Species is worth a fortune. A 1935 print isn't. It's worth less than a modern print.

Most contemporary books to The Origin of Species aren't worth shit nowadays, even if they're old.

Eventually, no one will want to hoard old videogames and assorted stuff. As current collectors die in the next few decades, their heirs will just sell it all in bulk for cheap for other collectors that have made it a little longer. Yes, there's some zoomers who get memed on videogames released years before they were born because they're influenced by YouTube ecelebs.

The first issue of Spider-Man is worth a fortune. 99.99% of comics from that period aren't worth shit. A LaserDisc release of many movies are worth a lot due to its rarity and because sometimes it's an unedited cut not butchered by Hollywood (Han shot first Star Wars for example), but an older VHS tape is worth less, and a DVD isn't worth one cent now, it's gonna be worth even less.

You think people in the future will be excited at all to hoard piles of old, possibly non-functional games? You think they will give a shit? They might care about Zelda A Link to The Past or Chrono Trigger for it's historical importance. But Blasto on PS1? Tom and Jerry on SNES?

Rarer games are a good point to pick up. Arc Rise Fantastica, Last Story, Pandora’s Tower, Rhythm Heaven Fever, and Sakura Wars all are worth getting now since they already run ~70 bucks. Wii has a weird library of decent games.

I guess rare titles are nice to pickup, but the Wii doesnt seem have any standout "classics" to me. It always felt like a casual shovelware system, and theres very few groundbreaking titles that are memorable. Theres the marios and the zeldas but they are nowhere near as popular as their 64 or gamecube counterparts.

I think also we will see Mario Galaxy and TP/SS get a surge of love in a few years once zoomers come around shitposting about them. It happened to Sunshine and Wind Waker it will happen again. I’m already seeing the outpouring of love to Super Paper Mario it’s happening.
