I just call it the fucking PlayStation or PS. PSone if I'm referring to the shitty thin model. PSX was an internal name, X meaning experimental, that did actually appear in early promotional materials. It caught on with some people. It didn't just magically happen on the Internet like some faggots said, it was due to magazines. But calling it the PSX now is like calling the N64 the Ultra 64. Everyone will know what you mean, but you look like a tool doing it.

God damn audiofags. I can concede that the models with built-in RCA jacks probably have a appreciably clean signal, but that is too god damned pretentious for me to take seriously. I agree that when I occasionally listened to CDs on my old PSX they certainly sounded clean, specifically the midrange, but to say its somehow a godsend is entirely fucking subjective. Fucking hate audiofags.

>> No.734707

>>734647
It's not a godsend so much as it is a low-budget alternative. It's not perfect, but it's good at getting the job done.

the thing is the chip from the 100x models is pretty good and then if you pair it with quality speakers and a quality amp it sounds damn good. Everyone thinks its just the PS but its not you have to have a nice amp and a nice set of speakers but it truly does sound amazing when you set one up. Also you don't need to mod it but if you switch out the capacitors and resistors then it sounds even better but it loses some of the unique sound. The chip provides great sound stage and great mids while everything else is still pretty good too.

This. When it came out, it was just the Playstation. When PS2 came out, everyone I knew called it the Original Playstation, First Playstation or PS1. I still can't figure out why people call it the PSX. X would imply 10. We're not even fully to PS4 yet.

Sony America was kicking around the possibility of calling it PS-X (as in extreme not ten) in America at one point, lots of people called it that circa '94-'95 and it sort of stuck around somewhat.

Are you in North America? I am in the UK and I have never seen one with actual words on the buttons.

On a related note, apart from more connectors do the early model PS1's offer any benefits? The one I got as a child is a 9002 model and I wondered if it was worth picking an earlier one up if I see a good deal.

How the fuck did we call the playstation 1 psx in 1995?

Not sure if troll, but ePSXe 1.8 and PCSX-R if you like better graphics/plugins/whatever.
Xebra and Mednafen PSX if you like muh accuracy/original experience/no plugins/shitty interface.

I use Mednafen PSX via RetroArch because I'm too lazy to deal with plugin messes, my games look good enough, and I don't want to deal with the shit interface of Xebra.

Reading is hard. he said that PSX caught on because the internal nomenclature for the system was, as everyone should know by now, the Play Station eXperimental, because intercaps were cool.
