Even as a zoomer (grew up on n64) I can sort of agree with you, in the sense that anything that is posted on this board is considered retro. Pre 2000's gaming is definitely a whole different bag worth discussing separately
That being said, ps2 gamecube and xbox are definitely retro, and capable of ""being retro"" because of the way games were still being made, long time developers still being around, and diverse hardware.
Its the same issue of why for example metallica and the rolling stones are considered "classic rock" theres no convenient way to say "the older stuff thats older than the old stuff"

This would be a non issue with /v2k/ or something.

Dreamcast release was: 11/27/98
Ps2 release was: 11/24/00
Xbox release was: 11/15/01
Gamecube release was: 11/18/01

I consider them all retro/same era personally. Graphics wise (though its been a long time), I think they all looked pretty much the same. None of the games had that excessive polish that you didn't get till the next era when there was a heavy influence of being connected to internet, updates, ect.

6th gen imo still feels too new to be "retro" but with that being said, people were calling the NES and SNES retro after far shorter time gaps than what we've had since the 6th gen systems release. perhaps a good barometer for whether a system can be classified as retro could be whether their entire libraries are easily available for individual download on normie "retro gaming" romsites ala emuparadise. if so, then 6th gen definitely qualifies.

As much as I like the inclusion of these games, I also think they don't belong. 6th gen games are split into two camps, games that are still relevant today and games that people stopped caring about. Melee has tournaments going for the better part of a decade, San Andreas is still a widely played game, battle for bikini bottom and destroy all humans recently got remade, resident evil 4 has been perpetually been re-released on every subsequent console, and other such examples. You can't say the same about most 5th gen games, hell you can't even say the same about 7th gen games either. 5th gen and prior were products of their time and more not less stay there, but 6th gen games laid the foundation to a lot of modern games and are still popular today.
