how can people act like this is cryptic when in most other superbomb locations its just some random end of a wall or point in the floor that either looks odd or you have to bomb to see.

What helps is that it's a suspicious looking location that serves no real purpose and clearly has explorable space above and below it. If there were several tubes identical to this that you couldn't break and this one just happened to be breakable then, yeah, it would make sense to call it out. But the way it's actually implemented clearly guides you to try shattering the thing. And since you only have a handful of weapons and it takes just one power bomb, I don't see how anyone could get stuck.

That's not what the game defines as a breakable wall. Breakable walls in Super Metroid are all blocks, and can be scanned for further details. This is a unique situation completely for the game.

Took me about an hour of wandering around when I was 14 to figure this out back in the 90s, and it wasn't the first thing I tried to randomly superbomb to see if something would happen.

no that's wrong, wrecked ship is a kind of normal way to get into maridia, and THEN you are shown previously-blown-up tubes, and THEN you fall out of the ceiling back into the tube and blow it up.

You can blow up the tube early, but you can't do anything because you don't have gravity yet. I blew up the tube early cause I thought that's what I was supposed to do. You are rewarded with a map and an extra save point if you do it.

I always found it weird that a game this well made wouldn't have some sort of visual queue to let the player know, like it would've betray itself for not following it's own level design "philosophy"?, i think. I guess it was mostly the player's fault for not noticing it/paying closer attention.

Zoomers also think the way you get inside of Jabu Jabu is cryptic. Imagine not being able to understand that big fish eat small fish. By "intentional way", I assume you mean out the back end and into Maridia? The problem with that being the "intentional way" is that the game drops you back in Brinstar at the ship's entrance after you get the Gravity Suit.

And you're expected to have found the spot inside the ship where the water keeps you from jumping over a wall and going out the other side, so curiosity would naturally lead you to return. Even I figured that part out.

>> No.7229898

>>7229857
Actually, looking at the map I take that back. Going out the back of Wrecked Ship, the only path to progress in Maridia is to take the tube down. Go right for Springball and a dead end, go straight left to find a busted tube, and a gate that can only be opened from the other side.
Go back to busted tube room, and see that it has crabs coming up through the floor, signaling to go through that way. Also, said crabs ONLY drop powerbombs when killed. Go through the floor to the right to get the map, which would show that there is more explorable area directly above/below the tube room. The hints are all there.
Even without that, The only people that got stuck here are the same ones that "got stuck" in that room in Brinstar with the disappearing bridge/spikes.

>> No.7229936
