Keeping the CRT up and running is a constant expensive and it gets more expensive every year, in 10-20 years not gonna be any parts left.

i mean, i would be fine having the thing for 5-10 years and then selling it (at a loss, presumably). but it's something to keep in mind. i imagine the CRT is the main point of failure for these, right?

The CRT screens have been an issue for ages now, even 20 years ago people already started to look for solutions like the supergun and the like so you could play in your regular TV with RGB.

Have several too lazy to dig up pics right now. especially for someone who likes DDR

>>7212160
This. You have to feed and walk your CRT every day or it will die on you. lmao
WTF are you even talking about faggot

If you follow proper safety protocol, most of the time the monitors need their capacitors replaced. If it's a problem you can't fix by yourself then you can disassemble the monitor from the cabinet and send it to someone to get it repaired. There are people that specialize in arcade and CRT stuff and that goes for all kinds of other components in a cabinet.

built a custom one early this year with Ultimarc parts, MAME and a bunch of other emulators, 10,000 games total now.
if you're thinking of doing custom for the love of god don't kid yourself into buying the raw plywood and cutting it out, just get the north coast custom flatpacks or something similar. I'll post pics of it when it's really really finished, since the control panel needs redoing and the artwork isn't applied yet and it currently looks like shit.

I've had one for ten years and haven't changed a fucking thing on it. Works fine. These things were designed to be on for 12 plus hours a day, 7 days a week. What the fuck are you talking about?

You're not selling these at a loss if it works when you sell it. Prices keep going up, they're not making anymore, and demand keeps going up.

If you don’t have the guts to repair your own monitor, you should never own an arcade.
