If you could only choose 1 which would you pick? I think Ps3 is better as long as its the slim model and not the fat which is prone to overheating.

can you even mod slims?

>> No.7206258

I know you mean well, but this isn’t a good thread. And it’s borderline not retro. It’s more emphasized on newer hardware to play old games. But the main point of the thread is the ps3 vs psTV. Just such a shitty thread dude.

Playing PS1 games though a PS2 is the best option. PS2's "smoothing" of textures is 10x better than what PS3 does for some reason. (Never use fast load though, that causes glitches out the ass)

>> No.7206281

PS3 is kinda cool because you can make unlimited memory cards (within system limits etc) and allows you to use your own discs.
PSTV was more cumbersome overall and honestly beyond the novelty of playing PSP and Vita games on tv (which has its own whitelist if you aren't going to hack) wasn't really worth it.
As anon said the best solution is a modded PS2.
Everything I.MO of course

Ps2 is definitely the best way

Yes, but it depends on which slim model specifically. See the last column in the tables here: https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/SKU_Models . All the ones with red can't have CFW installed.

PS3 since it can connect to CRTs

Smoothing also cause visual glitches on some game.

PS2 slimline. Japan's exclusive cinnabar red would be nice (Region locked to Japan). Black is typical but iconic. Silver is pretty interesting, never seen one in person (rare af). White looks good, except very high maintenance to upkeep (cum smudges, cheeto dust, dead skin fucking EVERYWHERE, etc) and finally Pink (Region locked to Europe) would be sick with some black decals to cover up the how gay you really are, and swap out the cum-colored cord of the pink controller with something fresher. Or you can be a cool guy and just buy whatever and get custom housing for everything.

Regarding the PS3, loved mine, but I could go on never playing it again. There's only 2 games I would ever come back to. Motorstorm series (seriously the most fun I ever had in a racing game), and the re-release of Zone of the Enders: 2nd Runner (framerate never drops). Eh, follow your heart kid.

Why would I do a hard mod to run ps1 games on a SD card when I can play them on a ps2,ps3 or pstv just with a soft mod?

>the re-release of Zone of the Enders: 2nd Runner (framerate never drops).
Not true, frame rate drops happen during the large battlefield level (the one with Vic Viper flying around) and during the final Anubis fight. Probably in more places as well. It's a good port and it does run very respectably for the hardware but The 2nd Runner MARS is a much better release. The frame rate is a perfectly locked 60 even on a base PS4, the lighting effects have been improved (seriously any laser effect in the game is downright gorgeous) and it's even more faithful to the original release's color pallet. You probably wouldn't ever notice it without direct comparison but the PS3 version has scenes where the overall color of the scene just straight up isn't what it's supposed to be. Probably a remnant of the awful prepatch release.

I replayed MGS on my PS3 on CRT because my PS2 was crapping out on reading black discs. Looked and ran great except during the Rex battle, where the textures started bugging out. PS3 is emulating, so there's just weird stuff you'll run into.

>> No.7207417

2D stuff on the PS3 is weird. X-Men Children of the Atom didn't even work at all

if you're playing off a disk then why not use the original hardware?
if you're playing isos then a vita/pstv is easier to mod and set up for ps1 than a ps3.

all i know about is desyncs in Mega Man Legends Cutscenes on the PS Vita and PSTV. Also the whole apple market is laggy. These problems don't exist on the PS3.

I haven't played every single PSOne Game on each of them but i assume MML is not an isolated case and the PS3 will in general offer you better performance. As weird as it sounds
