Doom 1 and 2, I never save midlevel. Their levels are generally short enough and easy enough to not really need them.
Final Doom, I allow one midsave per level.
Most pwads, I allow up to 3 midsaves
Stuff like Sunlust, I allow up to 7 midsaves (including the start save, this takes up all 8 save slots on prboom/eternity)

You could maybe suggest that it's firing two shots rapidly in semi-auto mode, though you don't see any mode switching and the SPAS12 doesn't cycle in a mere milisecond. The grenade launcher on the MP5 doesn't reload either, it can straight up just fire ten 40mm grenades in rapid succession as if there was a self-loading action and magazine for it (which should realistically be bigger than the gun it's attached to). Realism wasn't a primary concern.

I've been seeing cool shit with D3 BFG in particular lately. CST has a version that adds original ammo counts and other inconsistancies.
The problem as a whole from my perspective is each separate fan port fixes a separate issue of a big package.

I just finished Winter's Fury. Overall I enjoyed it and appreciate the recommendation. The levels themselves were gorgeous, though sometimes the lighting made it hard to tell what I was shooting at, especially the ice enemies against the ice background. The void level/dream sequence type thing was neat. I just never can get into sunlust. I've tried several times (even once with gameplay mods) and I always get bored and drop it about 10 maps in. Not saying its too hard (I never found it too difficult) but there is something about the levels that just turn me off, they look very nice, but play poorly to me, kinda like when I play doom2 and hit map13 and lose all modivation to play, but on every map.

Yeah, the choices have been quite weird for few years. Even at least year's choice for giving Shotgun Symphony a cacoward, but only listing Doom Zero as a runner-up was weird thing to do. Well, that's a hard question. From post 2010 wads the both are my most favorite wads. Both have absolute great level design, fun and challenging combat, nice new textures, good variation with episode-based format, excellent additions to beastiary and even new sprite based end bosses. I think part of that was worked on by John Romero and Dave D. It's a strange weapon which very much feels like they were kind of just fucking around and then accidentally stumbled upon something extremely novel and unintuitive, it's really easy to get just a little bit of its massive power for your given ammo, but once you get a feel for it and learn how it actually works, you can exploit it not just for its cataclysmic megawattage, you can also exploit its weird behavior for interesting tactics, it's even worth completely disregarding how much actual damage the melon's impact itself does, because it's completely dwarfed by all the tracers' output, hence you can do shit like stand right in front of a door and shoot it while opening it, timing it right all your tracers blow out in front of the door to immediately atomize a single powerful enemy, or you shotgun an entire platoon of bad guys, like you're a commercial wildlife harvester obliterating an entire flock of ducks with a punt gun.

Still trying to get a hold of controls, and getting owned in 'im too young to die' in brutaldoom, but it's very fun.
How does one best manage having multiple weapons at the same slot? I wanna go fast but running and gunning and switching to sth i didn't want to only very slowly reload or not have ammo and die is annoying.

Also, is there akin to an areana mode rather than the normal story?
