Me and a friend have a way that we force each other to stay serious about emulating arcade games. Usually, since you don't have to put in any credits, a newcomer will add near infinite continues to retry as needed.

Our solution was to create a coin jar to put coins in. We'd try for 1CC of course, but often we would have casual fun together, but we still kept each other accountable to make sure we were serious when it was time to 1CC.

Putting actual money on the line makes you take those lives a lot more seriously. Of course, we throw the money out after it gets full, because just like at the arcade, well...if you lose, it's gone.

I recommend you give this a try and see how much it improves your game. I think you'll be thrilled with the results.

Add the rule that the winner has to come. That way the loser had to actually put in the effort if he wants it to finish.

If we went to a real arcade, nobody would profit regardless of whether we win or lose, right? So yes. We throw it away. Keeping it would be cheating us out of the entire experience.

The arcade profits, retard. You are the arcade in this scenario. At least donate that shit to sick kids or something.

We are not the arcade, we are simply patrons.
And you and I both know those charities operate for tax purposes only. If you think your dollar you donate at Wal-Mart is actually going to sick kids, you've got a lot to learn about business.

You should give the money to charity or something instead of throwing it in the trash like an idiot. Or since you're a person who probably doesn't pay with cash, you probably just have a finite amount of quarters lying around. Just get the amount you want and have the willpower to tell yourself that you won't get more.

I can't believe this is serious. You're such a fucking retard for throwing away money. There are reputable charities, and if you really dont want to help others just buy your friend a cup of coffee with the quarters you lose. Or just get some self-control and limit your continues.

True self control is committing to the genuine experience and not compromising by paying each other, or keeping the money for whatever reason. If you think it's easy to just throw the money out, you're wrong; it's difficult. But I spent it on the game, so it's not mine to keep anymore. It keeps me far more serious about winning, and it makes every victory and defeat so much more soulful, earned, and incredible feeling.

Besides, those people need to learn how to help themselves. Giving them money is just enabling them to continue sucking on my delicious, quarter-y teat.

Also, it's impossible to buy a cup of coffee with quarters that you put into an arcade machine. You know why? Because they're in the arcade machine. Can't use them anymore. You already spent them. It's the same principle.
