It's the best MG game outside of MGS1-3. It's the peak of 2D stealth and plays like a more refined MG2. The story is also really good, if a tad overrated. It's definitely the best GBC game.

Ghost Babel isn't actually set in an alternate universe, it's Raiden's VR training as part of the S3 Plan prior to him being deployed during the Big Shell Incident in MGS2.

It's based on Solid Snake's experience during the events of Shadow Moses, but because the exact nature of certain parts of that mission are only known to Snake, and certain other parts are highly classified, the simulation differs from the actual events in a lot of areas.

Also, for what its worth, it's a pretty fun game.

but because Kojimbo had nothing to do with it, he doesn't see it as canon or part of "his" franchise. (similar to Portable Ops) And this was before Murata and Kojimbo ran the plot and lore of MGS through the mud with the obvious later games.
