I never knew Ecco the Dolphin had a PC port, and it's the definitive version too. My god the soundtrack is amazing!

What does it better than the Sega CD one?

Better graphics, water ripple animation, and some minor audio enhancements.

>> No.7182497 [DELETED]

Nobody gave a fuck about Ecco until faggot ecelebs started making videos about LE TRAUMATIZING SPOOPY BOSS IN A KID FRIENDLY GAME xD.

You have to go back underage.

Forgot to mention that the PC version has 3D cutscenes as well

any video or pic comparison? in what way are the graphics better?
Never knew about these CGI cutscene on the PC version, just found it on youtube. Does it have the documentary-style cutscenes from the Sega CD version as well, or they replaced them with the CGI stuff?

Is Ecco as frustrating as people say it is? I heard it can be brutal, but the game interests me.

People can say what they want but I don’t think Ecco was made with kids mostly in mind for playing it.

The textures are clearly much higher resolution.
All of the cutscenes are CGI. There's over 13 minutes worth, which I find quite impressive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIcO8f_sXjw

Good stuff. I have always assumed it was just a lazy port with MIDI music.

Definitive version means the version everyone played. You are a brainless faggot.

>> No.7182995

>>7182969
well, that's a stretched screenshot so it's hard to make a fair comparison, a lot of the graphical effects in Ecco are done through dithering, which you can't see on a stretched screenshot on a modern display.
The CGI cutscenes are okay but if it doesn't have the documentary ones from Sega CD it's a deal breaker for me.
I assume it does have the extra levels from the Sega CD version, right?

>> No.7183027

>>7182995
Yes. It's an enhanced port of the CD version, not the original.

I actually think the original OST is better because of the hardware chip.

Take it slow and get ready to dash up the tubes to get anywhere past the Medusa (or medusas if you are playing on hard). Get used to how the level is laid out with the sonar so you can get used to dashing through the corners by tapping the C button to get away. The end is tricky, but rewarding when you beat it. Good luck!

>> No.7184584

>>7184579
*By taking it slow, I mean to lure the medusa out in the bigger tube area at the start of the level so you can dash up the left or right tube.

It's very difficult, and not in a challenging I can do this way, but in a tedious and absolute bullshit you cant be serious way.
Which is too bad because the atmosphere is top notch. Im actually amazed I was patient enough to beat it as a child
Tides of time is superior and is actually enjoyable to play

>> No.7184723

The original versions have no checkpoints, so it's downright infuriating. The versions with checkpoints are absolutely okay for the most part.

It's not that bad. The learning curve is pretty steep, since there aren't many games like it. Expect to be stuck on like stage 2 for more than an hour. Once you master it, it feels incredible to play.
Only the final stage is tedious bullshit, since it's an autoscroller.
The other stages you can blast through once you learn the layout, which you will since you start over from the beginning when you die. I personally do not consider this bad, since it's so fun to just control Ecco, and it's satisfying to go fast.

Yup. This is the version I had as a kid that came packaged with my 1996 Packard Bell.

Redid the game on easy mode to figure it out, then finally managed to do it on normal. I'm not surprised they didn't get the chance to make a sequel when they graced players with such bullshit so early into the game. It took me like half an hour in crystal springs to figure out what to do. I only played and completed the game gear versions long ago and they already weren't easy to grasp.

>> No.7185742

PC version is the best way to play it. Sega CD and Xbox 360 version come close to second. Anything after that, is alright. Game runs amazing on PC. I recently TRIED to play it but forgot how difficult it gets.

>> No.7185819

I never thought any of the Sega PC games were good. Their biggest crime was replacing the original Genesis soundtrack with horrible MIDI files. However, Ecco looks fantastic. Might track this down and play through PCEM. Looks cheap.

>> No.7186728

There used to be an Ecco fan site where you could download the full game and enhanced community patch, but unfortunately it shut down in 2018.
