Has anyone actually completed Technicolor Antichrist and Bastion Of Chaos? I can complete Ribbiks' wads without it being too painful, but I've tried these two and they are way too hard for me. I can't complete them even with saving. I'm just wondering that is this trying pointless. I always loved the Aquatic edition. It had two new episodes (other set in underwater bases), shitloads of new monsters, new bosses, and even new ending cinematics.

Another good one is Duke Nukem Forever mod. It's Duke Nukem Forever recreated in Duke 3d. It has all stuff that the 90s trailers promised. New monsters, new guns, driveable vehicles.

So I was just reading the manual to Heretic and I see this in the story:

Rise of the Triad's release date: December 21, 1994

Heretic's release date: December 23, 1994

El Oscuro's organization is called the Order of the Triad in RoTT. And the symbols for both are very similar (ROTT Triad's is lower left and Heretics is bottom right) which is why someone had asked Romero this in the first place. We know Romero was working closely with Raven during the development of Heretic and he was also helping/consulting and going to the offices to see Tom when RoTT was being made around the same time.

So are they really the same universe?

I've seen many of them be really big empty maps that don't really have any interesting encounters to them, other than "ooo we're using textures/sprites from other games". It seems to suffer a lot from having very mediocre mappers included in them.

Here's map05 of DBP20, my favorite so far:

I actually didn't like Biotech; the theme was excellent, but I got lost too much in the levels. I started DBP01 and it's really good so far, albeit pretty difficult compared to their newer stuff. I got stuck on map03 but the level is still super good. I decided to only play one thing at a time from now on instead of bouncing around so I haven't gone back yet as I'm still finishing Valiant

Here is the map.

In the hundreds of times I've tested this map, twice in the last 20 minutes have I found an instance of enemies getting stuck within each other. That worried me, so I want to cast a wider net. It's a bug I'm not too keen on ironing out if those two instances are the only ones that will ever be. Many thanks in advance.

There's faster pistol, but that's about. It's prboom+ wad so it can't add new weapons without replacing ones, just new monsters. All textures are new (otex pack), which are used in 6 different episodes, which all look different from each other (gothic, techbase, snow, brutalism, hell, heaven).

Supercharge is quite fun. It changes the monsters too. It's included integrated with Paradise, a level pack by Tango.

Are you running 1.81? Check the quake.rc within the AD folder, and the AD readme/documentation. Should be a parameter for that, like how impulse 130 disables shotgun pellets. On my 1.81 the nailguns don't do that.

Meh. Feels like a bloated mod of Doom 4, stacked too much shit on top, tried too hard to fix the balance issues of 4 and went off kilter and made a lot of things too restrictive and no fun allowed. When I saw that scene in Eternal that revealed he was the same marine as in 1 and 2 and having him speak for the first time (unnecessary but I personally love the way they did it, elevating the infamous Doom comic from meme to design document and then to gospel. Alot of people say its corny but if you're gonna have Doomguy talk, using those lines was really the only way to do it in a way that wasn't totally cringe despite how cringe some may find the comic) had me literally cheering, I went back and played Doom 4 with a whole new perspective and loved it.

The gameplay is fast and fun and everything from the enemies to the general feel of combat is a love letter to Doom II. I have to play with the Classic skin though, the Doom Slayer armor is cringe.

The meme weapons were funny for like 2 levels in Caribbean, but the feedback on them was absolutely awful once the meme wore off. The level design was ok-ish, certainly not the worst. I really wanted to like DC, and some of the levels were pretty neat in terms of scale, but the level design from a gameplay standpoint was awful. Bad ammo balancing, extremely missable level progression, the smithsonian was like a masterclass in how to make shit map progression. As for Winter, well, I don't think anyone can defend that.

The first two levels are just bad reskins of E1M1 and E1M2 but in reverse, with almost all the exact same secrets (seeing some of the changes were kinda neat though, admittedly.) On the note of secrets though, there were barely any in the whole campaign, most were in the aforementioned 2 levels. The elves were extremely lazy enemies, and didn't even have pain or death sounds (which is a shame, because a "elven feminist militia" was a pretty funny concept. I was hoping they would have been at least somewhat like the female warriors from SW or something instead of just reskins of the pigcops and enforcers (to go alongside the actual reskins of the pigcops and enforcers, ofc)

I think you're confused, use any map editor you want, that's irrelevant to using UMAPINFO. It's just a lump you provide with the map files which let you define things such as:
>level names
>level order
>par times
>what sky to use
>what music to use
>which level it exits to
>which secret level, if any, it exits to

>if a bunch of maps are grouped into an episode
>if you want to have multiple episodes
>if it has the Dead Simple or Icon Of Sin specials

>your endpic

And then this lump is detected and read by GzDoom, Eternity, DSDADoom, and Crispy Doom, and it'll arrange accordingly. Strings which less advanced ports aren't coded to make use of will just be skipped, so added stuff like colored fogs and what not will load for GzDoom, but not Crispy Doom.

Use DSDA-Doom in place of PrBoom. It's the same port but it's actually being updated

Crispy Doom for limit-removing and vanilla.
PrBoom/DSDA-Doom for Boom/MBF. There are two executables here, both are the same except one uses OpenGL rendering instead of software rendering.
There is also a port called Woof, which is kind of like Crispy MBF in that it's 640 res like Crispy, but it can play Boom/MBF megawads as well.

Preacher is Boom compat, so it requires -complevel 9 .

If you don't set complevel and just go with the default, in-fighting is gonna be all fugged up and shiet.

Also one thing to note, if you're not recording any demos, you don't have to strictly adhere to the corresponding vanilla iwad complevels in most cases.
Complevel 3 mainly changes tag 666 bossdeath behaviour in Doom 1, alongside lost souls now bounce off surfaces instead of stopping on contact.
And Complevel 4 is basically the same as 3 but with teleporter destinations being buggy and not using the correct Z axis at times (ie, you'll be high in the air briefly after teleporting).

As such, You can pretty much play anything vanilla/limit-removing related to Doom 2 and Final Doom in complevel 3 for example and should not run into any issues whatsoever.

Crouch. You can crouch in the air too. Circle strafe fast. Don't stop moving. Grab cover whenever possible. Use the double shotty blast or tommy when possible. Adventures of Square is lit. It's like Valiant's projectile-heavy and movement-focused gameplay but to the extreme since you can jump and crouch. There are only two hitscan enemies and they are rare. Episode 1 is easy but e2 gets hard

It's actually high quality resize mode. I tried it with Square and it looks even better with Square than Doom. I thought it would clash, but by removing the pixels and rounding the edges, the sprites look like hand-drawn cartoons. The outlines look wavy where the pixels would be, but you don't notice that because you are constantly forced to move all the time

I was playing Square with no vertical look, like Doom, but it's actually way funner with freelook
