It DOES have difficulty options, but the highest difficulties feel extremely unfair and unfun to play, whereas "Come Get Some" (DN3D), Ultra-Violence (Doom) and "Nightmare" (Quake) feel quite hard but still very doable.

There are some ports that let you nerf the hitscanners a bit. I've beat the game without doing that but feel it's more enjoyable after a slight nerf. A few anons and I are currently making a community project for Blood. Here's the link if you want to play the beta, I added a new .zip with finalized versions of the maps.

I'd recommend playing it in Build GDX or Nblood. You can launch the episode by selecting "new game" > "user content" > "500ml.ini". Have fun dudes, let me know if I should alter anything.

remember to crouch a lot as it makes hitscanners have a harder time hitting you, also if you have the spare dynamite tossing a bundle or two around a corner is pretty much never a bad idea

>I feel like if I peek around a corner I'm going to get shot to death by 2 shotgun dudes and that dude with the machinegun.
That's why you don't peak around the corner in Blood, you should instead move like crazy (and crouch a lot) while throwing dynamite because cultists are less accurate while you are on the move and are glass cannons vulnerable to splash damage.

I've bought this off GOG yesterday, and I'm having a blast with it. At first I got really mad at those hitscan bastards, but after dying at least 8 times in both the 1st and 2nd maps, I pretty much got the hang of it. I purposedly gimped myself by only saving right when a stage starts, never during the stage itself. Feels more fair to me (mind you, the first FPS I played was Ultimate Doom back on the PSX).

I lurked these threads for years without knowing why people memed the cultists so hard, and I now kind of understand. At first their screams are annoying as fuck, but once you start throwing dynamite around corners and hearing that AAAGGGH becomes so satisfying. It's a liberating experience, to finally hear the death scream of some enemy. I really hate death screams in most FPS (specially that fucking monkey in Shadow Warrior), but Blood made me turn around pretty quickly.

I'm playing on Light Broiled, and except for a few times right at the beginning, I never ran out of bullets for the bread and butter (Shotgun and Tommy Gun). I never really bothered to find secrets on FPS, but I actually like the ones on Blood. I don't know why. Actually, I don't know why I liked Blood so much. On most other FPS, I can only play for 1 or 2 hours before getting tired of it, but I could play Blood for days. Even when I got a bullshit death, I kept coming back. The stages are big, but every time you die you learn so much that it doesn't feel like you wasted your time.

I just defeated the first boss. Are there only 5 episodes? I see that the second episode has different enemies. Do they all appear there or they're going to keep introducing new enemies every episode?

Most of the problems only become apparent when you make maps, but there are some that make the port objectively worse than others.

1: It can no longer be updated, thanks Atari.
2: The port can't play midi files, only the red book audio soundtrack. (No custom music)
3: Some of the enemy ai / behavior isn't accurate.
4: Weapon damage / enemy weakness aren't properly implemented.
5: Audio layering is fucked beyond belief. Effects can and will continuously layer on top of each other until the sound cuts out.
6: Generated explosions can be heard at full volume across the map, combined with the previous issue this makes fireball generators ear rape.
7: Some of the triggers / scripting are not functional, you can't create a trigger for when the player leaves a sector.
8: New maps created with xmapedit will not launch in Fresh Supply, they have to be saved in vanilla mapedit.

Needless to say, you shouldn't be using Fresh Supply, unless your playing that extra crispy mod.

>> No.7194267

>4: Weapon damage / enemy weakness aren't properly implemented.
Examples? I only played Episode 1, so I think the only thing with a weakness was that stone gargoyle.

>> No.7194332

>>7194267
Most of the enemies have a specific weakness to certain weapons. Hell hounds are weak to tesla shots, butchers are vulnerable to the spray can / flares, Gargoyles get wrecked by explosives, cultists get stunned by the tommy gun etc. These enemy weaknesses were not present on release, I don't think all of them got patched in either.
