Dreamcast had great arcade home ports but by that point, interest in arcade games was low and people wanted bigger more cinematic games. Also no DVD support because they didn't want to pay the licensing fees, and PS2 was right around the corner.

Oh, and Sega destroyed all their credibility over releasing the Sega CD, 32X and Saturn two years apart from one to the next. Then the year the Saturn is discontinued they release the Dreamcast. No shit people were getting fed up with Sega.

>Dreamcast had great arcade home ports
Stop with this meme. Even the Saturd had better ports. At least they were close to arcade perfect due to the Saturd and Titan arcade hardware being almost identical.
The Dreamcrap on the other hand had massively downgraded ports, both in visual and audio quality due to the Dreamcrap having such inferior hardware compared to its arcade counterpart the Naomi.
I think I read the Naomi had literally 4x as much memory for sound, for example. Kind of sad to see people on this website defending such a shit console and shit ports, but it's obviously some kind of buyer's remorse lingering from childhood.

I'd go MODE, since you can just drag and drop games onto it.
If you want to be daring, you could buy a USB-GDROM. I bought mine ages ago before everyone learnt that the bastard developer made the thing brick itself and require updates in order to keep working to prevent clones being developed. People close to him say that he's removed it now though, but he himself has never publicly acknowledged that such a thing actually existed. I've always been happy with mine. It doesn't require any formatting like the GDEMU and it's cheaper than the MODE.

Not really. Master System, Mega Drive and even the Saturn have a far more interesting library.

So many issues with the Dreamcast that people ignore. Just take, for example, the VMU. Look at this thing. Did Sega really expect the Dreamcast to survive the generation into 2005-2006 with a fucking Tamagotchi as a memory card?

Wow, just like an already overpriced memory card that I also have to by batteries to! Does anyone have a little screwdriver? I'm a little boy from the early 2000s who just lost his saved games because the battery died.

Many older controllers had cords out of the bottom. Sega continued that. I think the idea was that if you're sitting and holding the controller 'upwards', the cable can hang instead of tug at the top. Naturally however, you normally point the controller at the screen so this was changed for later consoles.

So many games on this console was completely overlooked (at least in the US).

Cannonspike, Power Stone 1 & 2, Jet Grind Radio, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Crazy Taxi, Star Wars - Jedi Power Battles, & Soul Caliber.

It goes on & on tho. It would bum me out that my friends didn't know what they were missing out on. We would always have fun playing them shits when they came over tho.

In 2010, I gave my Dreamcast games to a friend when I was suicidal af. I had to have over 50+ games with the booklets & everything. I gave him a bunch of other games too. I am estimating several $1000's-worth in today's value, lol. He hosts my site now tho, & says he will indefinitely for having him hooked up with so many fucking games.

I don't even regret it, truly. I like my shit backed up. I had too many shelves of media in my earlier days. It's so much better having external harddrives & the like.

DC's gamepad also lacked a lot of extra inputs that, while true 3D Controller didn't have either, were necessary for a 6h gen console & even PS1's DualShock had. Even the GCN's relative lack of inputs puts DC's gamepad to shame. But at least it has a bingbangwahooey VMU every onions e-celeb will remind you of.

It was good enough and in no way did it play any real major role in the systems failure , also piss easy to fix as SEGA was known to release 2nd revisions such as the 6 button genesis pad etc

How in the ever loving fuck could the Dreamcast have been competetively priced with a DVD player in 1998? SoJ wanted to keep the 29,000Yen price for all markets to recuperate the billions they had lost the previous years, No way in hell SEGA can afford to sell the system at a massive loss given the disasterous state of their revenue. You want the system to be MRSP 399 again? Oh and all those optical drive issues would have been ten fold with a DVD drive in 1998.

Always cringey when you can recognise the same fags.

You're only offering an excuse (Sega damaged its trust with consumers) without explaining why the Dreamcast was unable to rebuild this trust. As other posters have mentioned, the Dreamcast has so many chinks in its armour that it was an insurmountable task to compete with the superior PS2 and Xbox consoles. Those are just the plain facts.

If Sega damaged its trust - the lack of DVD drive, novelty memory cards and a mostly arcadey/fan service games library wasn't going to restore Sega to its former glory. Keep in mind, both Nintendo and Sony have had their reputations damaged in the past thanks to the WiiU and PS3 respectively and both console makers were able to bounce back in the subsequent generation.

Sega didn't. Sega failed and the Dreamcast wasn't a good enough machine to bring it back. As simple as that.

It is always cringey to see zoomers pretend to know what they are talking about, because they happened to have been in their diapers in 1999.
>WiiU and PS3
Neither came close to the shit shows Sega unleashead, PS3 had a shaky start and that was it they still stuck by the system. Nintendo at least did the bare minimum with the WiiU and kept the system going for 5 years. Meanwhile SEGA launched 32X, and killed it instantly. The Sega Saturn their main home console was killed three years into the systems life and they couldn't even deliver on the 1998 lineup.
So yes a good amount people thought just as I did why should I play Russian roulette with SEGA. I'll just buy a PS1 for the time being see how things develop, I have no idea why you even mention XBOX , Dreamcast was toast by the time the OG XBOX launched.
For that dumb ass comment about arcade games, the most sought out games for the PS2 at launch were DoA2 Hardcore,Ridge Racer V and Tekken Tag Tournament.

You'll need to post some comparisons because all I can find is that you have a slightly higher top speed in CT, probably because it loads from a cartridge on the Naomi. Some Naomi games are on GDs and STV and Saturn would have the same issue. Even if they have the same specs the STV is more memory efficient because of the lack of buffer space needed to execute data from the roms. So I'm sure you could go through that library and pick minute differences. Very few games out there are truly arcade perfect but most Naomi to DC conversions are.

Sorry that you gave up your games, at least your friend recognizes that you set him up right. But yeah, JG/SR is probably the most Dreamcast-y Dreamcast game out there outside of maybe Sonic Adventure.

Not him but just compare the textures in HOTD2 and Crazy Taxi to their superior original arcade versions, for example. And that's just graphcis. A lot of games have downgraded audio or slowdown issues.
I know it sucks to try and make a point and instantly get BTFO in response, but try to do some basic research before posting and it will probably save you some embarrassment in the future.
>Very few games out there are truly arcade perfect
That's completely wrong. In fact, lots of games out there are arcade perfect. Just not on Dreamcast.
>most Naomi to DC conversions are

Compared to Nintendo and Sony's libraries, it's nothing but cult classics. But if you enjoy bass fishing and shaking virtual maracas, then have fun. Just don't complain when your buggy furry platfoermers and inferior arcade ports don't move systems.

I randomly found it. Someone on reddit made it. Its called NuQuake. The mouse and keyboard work. But fps was falling to 20s.
I was able to beat 4 levels then it just froze. It doesnt seem like the quick load and save feature was working either.

THANKS GOD for the fucking VGA port on the Dreamcast, making it look so GOOD on a fucking HDTV.
